DAMAGE LIMITATION FOR KARRO AT SILVERSTONEMatiss Karro of the MVR-D Suzuki squad turned early disappointment into damage limitation at round seven of the , held at Silverstone in Northamptonshire, ending the day with a pair of encouraging finishes, but a slip in the championship standings.
Starting the day optimistically, qualifying eighth quickest, Karro looked set to repeat his promising form from recent rounds, setting about a steady ride in the opening race inside the top-ten, before a technical gremlin robbed him in the closing stages, forcing retirement.
With some frantic work from the team before race-two, Karro was back out all guns blazing in the second moto, pushing hard and running comfortably inside the top-ten on his RM-Z250, to take a well-deserved seventh at the flag.
Keen to move-inside the top-five in the final race of the day, the young Latvian pushed hard, but couldn’t quite repeat his second race performance, eventually crossing the line in ninth place, taking 13th overall on the day and unfortunately slipping from seventh to ninth in the championship standings.
Karro commented, “Today was tough. The changing weather conditions made things really tricky today, but I was feeling good in general, despite a difficult track. The first race DNF was really unfortunate and that put me on the back foot for the rest of the day really. My second race result was much better, but despite this and an okay race three, we’ve lost some points and naturally I’m disappointed.”
In MX1, Carl Nunn had a torrid time after scoring only one race result all day with a 13th in the opening moto. A crash in race two leaving the bike stuck in deep mud left the RM-Z450 rider unable to complete the rest of the day, finishing the penultimate round of the series 10th in the championship standings.
Team manager, Mark Chamberlain, commented,“Not one of our best days at the office in truth. Matiss looked full of promise, but that first race retirement really robbed us of a solid overall and of course this has impacted on the championship standings too. Carl had a day to forget, but just needs to regroup and show us all what he’s capable of in the coming weeks.
The team now look forward to the final round of the championship at Hawkstone Park on 3rd October.
