Bonham does well for Team Parker at Knockhill

Adam Bonham continued Team Parker Racing’s progress in the Ginetta Junior Championship by finishing each race in the top six positions on the challenging Knockhill circuit in Scotland.

The Leicestershire driver claimed sixth place in the first race, and crossed the line in fourth position at the finish of the second race.

Sixteen-year-old Bonham, who was on the podium last time out at Silverstone, kept up his recent form by lapping fourth fastest in qualifying. In Saturday’s race he was up to third by the end of the opening lap, but lost time in an incident shortly afterwards and thereafter raced to sixth.

On Sunday, Bonham was part of a four-car lead battle for much of the race, rising as high as third, but he slipped off the road briefly at the chicane and got punted wide by a rival at the hairpin. Despite this he recovered to fourth, only to be excluded because his brake lights were damaged due to contact in an incident.

Team-mate Finlay Ractliffe had another new circuit to get to grips with, but the14-year-old novice fought well in both races and in the Saturday event set a best lap time that was within a second of the fastest lap of the race.

Driver coach Danny Buxton said: “Adam has been massively upping his game lately and taking his racing very seriously. He’s really taking everything in and grasping it, and for a time in Sunday’s race he had the fastest lap. Finlay again made progress and off the grid he made up four places – he made a mistake but he’s on a big learning curve and he will progress.

“This weekend we’ve been really up at the front pacewise with Adam and he’s really delivered, so what we’re looking for is a strong end to the year to get his confidence up.”

The Ginetta Junior Championship again enjoyed live coverage of its second race at Knockhill on ITV4, and was streamed live on itv.com. The next round takes place at Leicestershire squad Team Parker Racing’s local circuit of Donington Park on September 18/19.
