The 94th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans will see the Ferrari 499P number 51 start from eighth place on the starting grid; the number 50 car, meanwhile, will line up in 12th position. The result came at the end of the Hyperpole session in which the two cars fielded by the official Ferrari – AF Corse team took part. The third round of the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship, which will kick off on Saturday, 13 June at 4 p.m. (local time), will see the number 83 499P entered by AF Corse start 17th.
Hyperpole 1, reserved for the 15 best crews from Qualifying, took place this evening in dry conditions, with air and track temperatures of around 19 and 26°C respectively.
During the opening 20-minute timed session, Antonio Giovinazzi – who shares the number 51 car with Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado – set a best time of 3’23”406, placing the car of the reigning World Drivers’ Champions eighth and securing a place in Hyperpole 2.
In the decisive second session, Calado took over at the wheel and stopped the clock at 3’25”081, a time that earned ninth place. The final classification, following the demotion of the number 38 car that had secured pole position, sees Pier Guidi-Calado-Giovinazzi eighth, 2.517 seconds adrift of first place.
The number 50 crew took part in the first part of the evening with Antonio Fuoco at the wheel. The Italian driver recorded a best time of 3’24”105, which was not enough to secure a place in Hyperpole 2: Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen will therefore start 12th. The yellow-liveried number 83 AF Corse car, winner of last year’s edition, will start from 17th on the grid with Phil Hanson, Yifei Ye and Robert Kubica sharing driving duties.
Miguel Molina, 499P number 50: “The Hyperpole was not memorable for us. We tried to do our best with Antonio at the wheel to achieve a good result. It didn’t work out that way, but now we look ahead: we know that the 24 Hours will be a very long race with many variables to take into account. We will try to perfectly execute everything that is under our control and then we will see what the result will be.”
James Calado, 499P number 51: “After the good job Antonio did in the first session, it was my turn to get into the cockpit for Hyperpole 2. It was a new experience, considering I had never qualified the 499P before. I think I put together a good lap, free of mistakes, on my first proper attempt, even if it wasn’t possible to achieve a better result. In any case, we will approach the race with maximum determination to express our full potential.”
