Round 7; Historic Tour of Flanders, 10/11 SeptemberWill Onions and Dave Williams were the top Dunlop/Wonago.com MSA British Historic Rally Championship crew on the Historic Tour of Flanders with a mighty performance in their Ford Escort Mk2. This was the first major asphalt victory for Onions as he proved the master of a demanding event on the closed public roads around the town on Roeselare. With two stages on Friday night and 12 more through a 13-hour day on Saturday, it was a truly challenging event.Onions went into the final stage a minute ahead of the Escort Mk1 of David Stokes and Guy Weaver, but had a massive scare when his gearbox stuck in first gear for the last five miles of the rally. Stokes, meanwhile, achieved his mission of taking maximum category two points to keep his title bid running with one rally left to go. In category one, Dessie Nutt and Geraldine McBride won in their Porsche 911 when rivals Jonathan Gale and James Whitaker went out with a damaged radiator in their Sunbeam Tiger.ResultsCategory One1 Dessie Nutt/Geraldine McBride Porsche 911 2 Rikki Proffitt/Bob Duck Porsche 911 3 Alan Honess/Tim Sayer Ford Cortina GT Category Two1 David Stokes/Guy Weaver Ford Escort Mk1 2 Chris Browne/Liz Jordan Ford Escort Mk1 3 Steven Smith/Phil Spurge Ford Escort Mk1 Category Three1 Will Onions/David Williams Ford Escort Mk2 2 Rob Smith/Shaun O’Gorman Vauxhall Chevette 3 Tomas Davies/Gwynfor Jones Ford Escort Mk2
