Team Rosberg picks up more FIA GT3 points in Portimão

Team Rosberg once again picked up some championship points at the fifth race of the FIA GT3 European Championship season in Portimão, Portugal. In the first race with their Audi R8 LMS, Kenneth Heyer and his new partner Grégoire Demoustier came fifth, making them the best Audi team in the field. Their team colleagues Paulo Bonifacio and Michael Ammermüller were ranked 13th in the first race. Both vehicles dropped out of the second race on Sunday.Frenchman Grégoire Demoustier raced for Team Rosberg for the very first time in Portimão. The 19-year-old, who previously sat behind the wheel of a Corvette in the GT3 European Championship, replaces Bernd Herndlhofer. Demoustier started the race from grid position 16 and handed his Audi R8 LMS over to German Kenneth Heyer in 13th place, who then fought his way up to fifth place by the end of the race. The Franco-German duo therefore secured themselves ten championship points. "A great performance,” said a delighted Peter Reinisch, manager of Team Rosberg. "Demoustier has fitted into the team effortlessly in just a short space of time, and Kenneth Heyer drove perfectly.”Paulo Bonifacio driving the second Audi R8 LMS started the first race from tenth place on the grid. As he made for the pit lane for the driver changeover, he touched a Ford – an incident which resulted in a drive-through penalty soon after, thus pushing the German and Brazilian pair back to 13th place. In the second race, Michael Ammermüller handed his vehicle over to Paulo Bonifacio in fourth place, but Bonifacio was forced to withdraw after 28 of 33 laps because he was having difficulty handling the vehicle after an impact. Their team colleagues Heyer and Demoustier failed to make it to the finishing line because of a gearbox failure."It was a weekend of highs and lows,” said Peter Reinisch in summary. "Heyer and Demoustier did very well to come fifth in the first race. But Ammermüller and Bonifacio having to pull out on Sunday when they were doing so well really was disappointing.”The final of the FIA GT3 Championship will take place in Zolder, Belgium, on 9 and 10 October. Before that, the team from Neustadt an der Weinstraße will compete in the season final of the ADAC GT Masters in Oschersleben from 1 to 3 October.
