Road Racing fans favourites Chris Walker and Tommy Bridewell are turning their attention from the tarmac to the sand on the 17th October for the 2010 RHL Weston Beach Race at Weston-Super-Mare. One of the most popular British Superbike riders Chris Walker will once again be racing in this year's solo event; this will be Chris' 10th time racing at the well established event.
Chris has always been a fond supporter of off road and started his career as a top motocross racer before turning his attentions to the tarmac and becoming a winner of British and World Superbike races in the process.
Chris is once again looking forward to competing in the RHL Weston Beach Race saying "I've done the Weston Beach Race around nine times, I think maybe more! I rode it the first time when I was 14 on a KX100 and I've been doing it ever since when it hasn't clashed with World or British Superbikes. My fondest memory of the beach race was in 2008 when my all round motocross hero Josh Coppins passed me really close down the start straight, glanced at me and gave me the thumbs up! My best finish was 14th place but that was a long time ago before the grey hairs started to appear. The Weston 'Rocks', where else can an average Joe like me compete against the best off road riders in the World? It gets bigger and better every year and I'm sure twenty ten will be no different!"
A newcomer for this year's RHL Weston Beach Race is one of the most likeable riders in the British Superbike paddock, Tommy Bridewell. 21-year-old Bridewell who comes from Devizes has set himself the challenge of battling it out in the sand to see how he matches up. Being a local to Weston-Super-Mare he will no doubt bring plenty of support with him to cheer him on.
He said "I'm really looking forward to finally racing at the Beach Race; I have been to watch for the last five years and also used to do my late brother (Ollie's) pit stops when he competed there. I'm really hoping it stays dry this year for my first time and hoping my fitness will hold me in good stead for a solid result at the end of the three ish hours. Our Superbike season finishes the week before at Oulton Park and I will be making sure I spend that following week preparing myself for the Beach Race, I can't wait!"
