EDINBURGH have taken control of their promotion play-off semi-final against Sheffield with a 59-31 win over the Tigers at Armadale.Ryan Fisher scored a 15-point maximum for the Monarchs, and he was joined in double-figures by Matt Wethers, Kevin Wolbert and Andrew Tully.Wethers only missed out on a maximum in Heat 15 despite receiving lengthy treatment after a fall earlier in the meeting, and chairman Alex Harkess is confident of defending the advantage at Owlerton on Thursday. He said: "The second leg is not a formality but the team were excellent again and have given themselves a very good chance of reaching another final."

CRAIG Cook should be fit for several important fixtures for Workington and Buxton after it was confirmed he has not broken his collarbone.Cook has been competing at all three levels this season and crashed at Ipswich on Thursday when racing for Peterborough in the Elite League.He is required by Buxton in their bid for several trophies at National League level, and by Workington in the Young Shield - as well as defending the National League Riders' Championship next Sunday at Rye House.

He said: "I think the shoulder popped out of joint but it appears to havegone back in. I can't remember much of what happened but I do recall someone saying it looked as if I'd broken something."I know I panicked when I heard that but that doesn't appear to have been the case and I've got away with it."
