Formula Renault 3.5 test for top British F3 drivers

Cooper Tires British F3 International Series Champion Jean-Eric Vergne and his runner-up are to be rewarded with a World Series by Renault test session, it is announced today. The valuable prize, negotiated by championship promoter SRO Motorsports Group, will see both drivers in action at the MotorLand Aragón circuit in Spain next month. The prize will also be awarded to next season’s top finishers.

And in a reciprocal arrangement with Renaultsport, this season’s winner and runner-up in the Formula Renault UK championship will be given the chance to test with a top British F3 team.

“We are delighted to announce this extra prize for our champion and runner-up,” said SRO general manager Lisa Crampton. “Formula Renault 3.5 is very much the ‘next step up’ for drivers graduating from British Formula 3 - as witnessed by the great progress made in the series by our 2009 champion Daniel Ricciardo and by Jean-Eric Vergne, who won a round of the series at Silverstone earlier this month.

“We welcome also the opportunity to see the cream of the Formula Renault UK field drive a British F3 car, as so many drivers have followed this route into our championship, like James Calado and Oli Webb, the two drivers battling it out today at Brands Hatch to be second overall to Jean-Eric.”

The half-day Formula Renault 3.5 test will take place on 20 October with the British F3 men testing alongside the top drivers from Renaultsport championships across Europe.
