Porsche Racers Set for Silverstone Title Showdown

Silverstone next weekend – October 1st and 2nd – hosts the final three races in the 2010 Porsche Club Championship season with the title battle wide open – and class leaders Marcus Carniel and Chris Dyer just two points apart. Dyer has won nine out of twelve Class Two races and heads Carniel by just two points with three races left and the best 13 scores from the 15 race season to count.

“I’m looking forward to it,” said 39-year-old Dyer who has strong Porsche connections working for marquee specialists Strasse in Leeds, “but it is a hectic lead up to the meeting as the car needed a lot of work after the last race at castle Combe in August. I like the long Silverstone circuit, the 944 handles well there and I just need three good races. The goal will be three wins, three fastest laps – and three good clean races.”

“I always enjoy the Silverstone long circuit,” said Carniel, “though also I won on the short version earlier this season. I need to focus on staying clear at the front, and winning, but it is already very strong entry for the meeting so it will be three hard races.”

2007 Porsche Club champion Mark McAleer is also in with a shout of reclaiming his former title, but the Yorkshireman will need to overcome a deficit of almost 30-points over the three races with his 968 CS to overcome the leading challengers. In a strong Porsche Club field others gunning for the win will include Pete Morris, who is putting up a trophy for the meeting named for his PMC Midlands company, Scott Kavanagh, who run at this event last year, Mark Sumpter and Kevin Harrison, the latter renowned for his quick starts.

The three Porsche races are main support events for the Silverstone 24-Hour race, and will take place on the Bridge circuit layout – what was until this season the Grand Prix version of the track. The long straights and wide circuit provide quick and exciting racing, with an entry of over 35 cars expected.

Qualifying is at 10.05 on Friday morning, with the first race at 14.30 on Friday afternoon. Saturday sees the final two 25-minute races, the first at 09.35, with the season finale scheduled for 14.05.
