Suspense is still reigning over the European F3 Open, at the eve of the sixth round of theyear, which will bring the series to one of the temples of motorsports, the AutodromoNazionale di Monza. On the fast Italian track, Marco Barba and Callum MacLeod areexpected to continue their fight for the title. The Spaniard and the Briton are separatedby only 13 points in the overall standings, although Barba made an important psychologicalstep forward in Brands Hatch, where he took his fifth win of the year, beating his rival athome and on a circuit he did not know.

This said, it is foreseeable that the duel will reach new heights in Italy and continue overin Jerez and until the very last round in Barcelona.

In Monza, other contenders are also expected to do well. This is the case of ToñoFernández Da Silva, now a strong third in the standings after having given Hache Team thefirst win of the season at Brands Hatch, or of the two young drivers of EmiliodeVillotaMotorsport, Fernando Monje and Juan Carlos Sistos, every day closer to first success, or ofJosé Luis Abadín (Drivex), always among the front-runners although not very lucky so far.Still, the ones that logically look forward to the Monza event are RP Motorsport and itsdrivers, David Fumanelli and Kevin Ceccon, as they will be racing at home. The team ofFabio Pampado is the only Italian squad in the series and its two drivers will be verymotivated to show great things to their tifosi. RP also enters Venezuela’s Biagio Bulnes and,as happened in Brands, it will be present with a fourth car (this time, an F308), foranother Italian driver, Matteo Beretta.

Things look pretty open also in the Cup. Aaron Filgueira (Drivex) has seen his lead in thechampionship reduced significantly after Noel Jammal’s double success at Brands. TheLebanese driver of Cedars Motorsport is now< only 6 points away from the Spaniard ofDrivex, with two Hache Team drivers, Luis Villalba and Nil Montserrat, not far behind. Therest of the Cup field is composed of Brazil’s Victor Correa and Macau’s Ho Hon Keong, both with West-Tec, and Frenchman Vincent Beltoise (Top F3).

Monza races will rely on the usual and ample TV coverage, with live broadcasts in Spain(Canal + Deportes, Intereconomía TV and some regional channels), Italy (Nuvolari), theMiddle East (OTV Lebanon), on top of delayed coverage throughout Europe (Motors TV) andLatin America (Fox Sports).
