Bristol based MOLSON GROUP have become a major sponsor of the acclaimed RHL Beach Race at Weston-Super-Mare for the first time this year, 15th - 17th October.
Molson are one of the country's biggest independent equipment dealers in the UK construction industry, although they are well known beyond our shores operating around the world, their Chairman Bob Barnett told us they are in fact celebrating their 15th anniversary in October 2010 and having the opportunity to support the RHL Weston Beach Race, which is a local event that is internationally recognised, was the perfect opportunity for them.
Although Molson have a number of international partnerships one of their strongest is the relationship with Hyundai Heavy Industries - indeed they are the biggest Hyundai dealer in Europe - and at Molson's request Hyundai have provided us with the heavy machines (excavators and wheeled loaders) that will be used for two weeks to build the track on the beach, and of course to return it to its normal state after everyone has gone home.
This year the RHL Beach Race sees the addition of the side-by-side racing on the Friday, making the event three days - October 15th - 17th. Pre sale tickets for the event are extremely busy with the additional day of Friday out selling expectations.
Molson say they were pleased to help out:"We know safety is a priority and the Hyundai machines are very reliable, with fine handling and control, all Hyundai machines come with features like full-colour reversing cameras fitted as standard by the manufacturer."
The 2010 race will see a "one-off" renewal of Molson's relationship with local legend Tom Church; Tom, a hugely popular professional motocross rider (and incidentally the son of well known Mike Church, himself former British AMCA Champion), used to ride for the Molson-Kawasaki racing team, which had great success on the international circuit until the team retired from the sport two years ago.
As well as sponsoring Tom Church, the Molson Group will also be sponsoring a popular amateur rider from Bridgwater, Martyn Tucker, no stranger to the RHL Weston Beach Races. Martyn, who got his initial training with Jaguar Cars, now finds it a struggle to find time to race as he is also the founder & Managing Director of Hydra-Tech, a local engineering firm that provides after- sales support to users of heavy construction equipment (Hydra-Tech is itself now a part of the growing Molson business empire).
A highlight will be the attendance of two Red Bull athletes, including 10 times World Trials Champion Dougie Lampkin who will be providing various trials demos over the weekend and World Enduro Champion David Knight who will be competing once again in the RHL Weston Beach Race.
The main race will see the riders, scramble around the specially constructed track, over sandbanks large and small, at speeds of up to 100mph.
The RHL Beach Race attracts generations of families, who have competed in the race from its initial start 28 years ago, from all over the country and Europe.
Interest is such that even the RAF are sending a contingent to the event, so don't be surprised to see a sophisticated supersonic aircraft on display on the Esplanade, alongside some of the Molson Hyundai machines!
Tickets can still be purchased from 01873 840 640 or via the internet at http://www.wbruk.com/
