MSA invites applications for FIA Institute Academy

The Motor Sports Association is inviting young British race and rally drivers who are interested in being nominated for the new FIA Institute Global Driver Academy to submit their applications by this Friday, 15 October 2010.The FIA Institute Academy is a new initiative that aims to develop the skills and attitudes that drivers require to progress their motor sport careers. The programme will be led by former Formula One driver Alex Wurz and 2001 WRC champion co-driver Robert Reid. Each national governing body is required to nominate a maximum of two competitors from which the FIA Institute will select a total of 20 finalists to attend a three-day selection event at a training facility in Austria in February 2011. The Academy will then choose 10 drivers – at least one from each of the five global regions – to join the scheme.Candidates must be aged 17 to 23 and will have completed at least their first year of circuit racing or rallying in 2010. Application forms are available to download from the FIA Institute website (www.fiainstitute.com) and UK drivers should send their completed forms to the MSA by no later than this Friday, 15 October.“This is an exciting initiative by the FIA Institute and could provide a valuable opportunity for a young British driver,” said Colin Hilton, MSA Chief Executive. “The creation of the MSA Academy reflects the MSA’s recognition of the importance of young driver training in this country and it is very encouraging to see the FIA Institute taking the concept forward at an international level.”
