Nathan Harrison, Jay Goodwin, John Stewart and Harry Webb join multiple champions
Strawberry Racing has unveiled the drivers who will contest the British Super 1 Championship and selected, key events in the coming season. Once again, it is an exciting blend of promising talents and established, championship and race-winning stars.
Highly-rated Harry Webb will lead Strawberry’s assault on the Mini Max title, whilst former competitor in the class, Jay Goodwin, graduates to the Junior Max ranks; joining fellow newcomer Nathan Harrison and Jack Barlow – who enters his second term with the Tony Kart team.
Also staying on is Super 1 vice-Champion Jack Marshall, who steps up to the senior category for 2011. Strawberry is delighted that Barrie Pullinger has also chosen to remain with the team after a superb campaign that has seen the Essex driver come on in leaps and bounds. John Stewart, the strongest finisher in this year’s S1 series - with three wins and a second place in the last four races – comes into the awning for the first time. Along with Barrie and John, Ed Brand will be expected to be a title protagonist. Like Barrie, Ed has taken a win during his maiden senior season and is working hard with the team to launch his bid to lift the title in twelve months time.
Team Manager Warwick Ringham says, “I think we definitely have one of the strongest line-ups for next year’s championship. It’s always important to build on what’s gone on before, and of course we had terrific success in 2009 and this year has been even more successful. With this group of drivers, I’m very excited about our prospects.”
He added: “Ironically, Harry missed out on the Mini Max title to George Russell. George is moving to KF3 and it is fantastic to have his nearest rival choose Strawberry to go one better with in 2011.”
Turning his attentions to his Junior drivers, he said: “Since he’s come to us, Jack Barlow has really flourished. He is a big, big talent but acknowledges that you have to work at being a top driver. Over the winter, we will be working to make sure that he is again challenging at the front and if we all get it right, go for the number one plate. Nathan and Jay had frustrating seasons but showed great speed and an ability to compete at the front. We will be pushing to improve them in all areas and I believe they have what it takes to consistently deliver the results they are more than capable of achieving. “I can’t wait to see them in action,” Warwick said of his senior quartet. “All four of them are quality. There’s an interesting spread of ages and experience but each one of them is a racer and a winner. Jack Marshall will be eager to prove that he can mix it with the big boys, which Barrie certainly proved this year. He, along with Ed and John will expect to be fighting for the title, so the pressure is on us to deliver. However, the Tony Kart EVR and the engines from Ogden give us a very potent package.” Having wrapped up the Super 1 and Formula Karts Stars titles recently, George Russell is switching to KF3 with Strawberry’s sister outfit, the Tony Kart Junior Racing team.
