The GT40 MK III LHD Prototype - Ford's Ultimate Supercar @ Fiskens

The GT40 MK III LHD Prototype - Ford's Ultimate Supercar @ Fiskens

THE ONLY LHD PROTOTYPE OF FORD'S RAREST SUPERCAR

Initially planned for a 20-car run, the Ford MK III was launched off the back of the MK II's 1966 Le Mans win, promising Ford's wealthiest customers a Le Mans car that they could daily.

Built to US road legal standard and aimed at only the very upper echelon of Ford's customers, the MK III cost an eye-watering $18.000. It comes as no surprise then that the production run was reduced to seven total (including the LHD and RHD prototypes), making the MK III Ford's rarest production car.

DEVELOPMENT AT FORD ADVANCED VEHICLES, SLOUGH

XP 130/01 is momentus as Ford's MK III LHD Prototype and was in development alongside the race-winning cars at FAV in Slough during the summer of 1966.

DISPATCHED ON PRESS DUTIES

The face of the MK III project, XP 130/01 was shown at Nieman Marcus in Houston and officially debuted on Ford's stand at the 1967 New York Motor Show.  It was also reviewed in countless magazines whilst at Gotham Ford, who were earmarked as the MKIII's main distributor.

UPGRADE TO FULL PRODUCTION SPECIFICATION

Press duties completed, XP130/01 was returned to FAV to be upgraded to full MK III specification and joined the 6 other MK IIIs as M3/1101 - retaining its rightful place as first off the line.

RESTORATION TO PROTOTYPE SPECIFICATION

M3/1101's meticulous restoration was completed on the 12th of August 2016,  just in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ford's Le Mans win at Pebble Beach. 1st in class was awarded to the 1966 Le Mans winner (an FAV stablemate of 1101's), 2nd went to an extremely rare GT40 roadster, and M3/1101 deservedly came 3rd.

M3/1101 is presented in concours condition and accompanied by a lengthy Ronnie Spain dossier. Born from Ford's triumphant Le Mans winner and limited to just seven total, M3/1101 offers the most discerning collectors the same exclusive opportunity that it did in 1967.
