EASTBOURNE boss Trevor Geer is not ruling out the possibility of Slovenian star Matej Zagar spending a second season in Eagles colours.Zagar's year at Arlington got off to an inauspicious start but he produced a number of strong performances in the second half of the season as he helped the Sussex side to the Knockout Cup Final and an impressive home Elite League record.Geer said: "We need a good No.1 for next year. Matej finished the season reasonably well and he knows the track pretty well now so yes, I consider him a genuine No.1 rider."He was very happy at Eastbourne at the end of the season. But let's wait and see, we can't do anything until the BSPA's AGM."(SPEEDWAY 2)

STEVE Boxall is targeting a return to the sport next season after quitting Somerset early in the 2010 campaign. The former National League Riders' Champion rose through the ranks with Rye House and also had a spell with Elite League Poole last year, but left the Oak Tree Arena to concentrate on his career as a gas fitter.Boxall said: "I needed to take this year out to get my gas ticket qualification, because if I didn't do it this year I don't think I ever would have."I love the sport more than anything but I knew I had to sacrifice this season for the sake of my future. I have missed it like you wouldn't believe, I love speedway and it's what I want to do."

(SPEEDWAY 3)WORKINGTON owner Keith Denham says the cost of stewarding is central to his negotiations as he attempts to keep the Comets running next season.Denham will need to declare his intentions at the BSPA AGM which starts later this week, and he remains in talks with Workington Town chairman Dave Bowden.Denham said: "Dave has been very sympathetic and appreciates how difficult it is in this day and age to keep a professional sport running, and if it wasn’t for the stewarding aspect I think we would have done a deal."I have done a lot of research across speedway, and no other track pays the amount of money we do for stewards. Last season I was paying over £1,600 at each home meeting for rent and stewards and I’m looking for that to be halved, which I don’t think is unreasonable."

PLYMOUTH boss Mike Bowden has confirmed that his club hopes to join the Premier League next season. The Devils have previously run at third-tier level and they have upgraded their facilities as they seek to move up, with their future to be decided at this week's BSPA AGM.Bowden said: "It's been a successful five years, in that we've won some national trophies. We've also proved we can run a speedway club successfully and we have the support of some really good fans."It's cost us a considerable amount of money, running into thousands, to apply for the Premier League. But, as I've said before, the money is there for us to do that and I believe it's time for us to move on."
