The Kart Sporting Committee has issued a discussion document outlining a number of proposals and considerations that it believes will help to shape the future of UK karting.

The Karting Green Paper was originally conceived in 2008 but did not proceed past the draft stage, as the MSA then announced its own review of karting. Following the conclusion of the MSA review and the subsequent restructure of the governance of the sport, the Motor Sports Council requested that the Kart Sporting Committee revisit and update its original document for wider publication.

“There was a great deal of work put into this document originally,” says Rod Taylor, Chairman of the Kart Sporting Committee. “It was designed to be radical, to raise the issues that everyone in the sport was aware of, but that no-one seemed prepared even to discuss, let alone address. Unfortunately, instead of taking it as a discussion document, it was rejected out of hand which led the MSA to instigate its own full-scale review of karting.

“Now the restructure is under way, the Motor Sports Council has asked Kart Sporting Committee to reconsider the original paper, to update it where necessary and to circulate it for wider consideration. The Committee is delighted to do so and we hope that these thoughts may stimulate the debate that will lead to a fundamental re-evaluation of karting and secure its future growth and development.”

In order to ensure the fullest possible debate, the MSA will attend a series of regional meetings during the first quarter of 2011 to discuss the Karting Green Paper and other issues with kart clubs and other organisations involved in the sport.
