V8 Ute Series Championship podium in the sights for Sieders

As the season comes to a close on the streets of the Homebush Olympic Park this weekend (3-5 December 2010), Nulon Oil's David Sieders will be making one last ditch effort to climb onto the championship podium of the Yokohama V8 Ute Series - protected by Armor All.

The Western Sydneysider currently sits in fourth place by four points to Andrew "Fishtail" Fisher, whom the Sieders Racing Team also prepares, and 36 points out of second placed Jack "The Hustler" Elsgood.

"We've had a really great year," said Sieders, "we've had some great results, with three race wins, two round wins and two pole positions so far, and to be so close to a podium finish for the year makes this last, and local, round quite exciting".

"The team have worked hard all year, and the reality is that we are looking at the possibility of having two out of the three cars that the team prepares being on the podium for the season, which would be a deserved result for the guys."

There are 149 points available for the final round, which also makes Sieders a mathematical chance of winning the Series, being 122 points behind current leader Grant "Grunta" Johnson, who gifted last year’s Championship to Jack Elsgood despite going into the final round with a seemingly unassailable lead.

"It may be a long shot for the Championship title, but stranger things have happened," said Sieders, "personally, I'll be looking to finish each session ahead of Andrew, Jack and Grant to make sure I can get on the podium, and make sure I put the car in the best position to capitalise on anything else that happens".

Regardless of his results this weekend, Sieders has already recorded enough points to secure the V8 Superschool Rookie of the Year and a V8 Supercar Test Day with Paul Morris Motorsport, with his next closest rival, Jeremy "Shades of" Gray, being 162 points behind.

"After such a strong opening round, the Rookie of the Year has been one of my goals this season, especially having come so close in other categories before."

"I'm really looking forward to the test with Morris, as it's a great opportunity to demonstrate my ability in front of a 'Main Game' V8 Supercar Team, and could lead to a mountain of further opportunities."

Although this will be Sieders' first race in a Ute around the Homebush street circuit, he will be no stranger to the track, having equalled his best ever result in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series on the track last year.

"I love the track," said Sieders, "it's tough, brutal, fast, furious and punishes poor driving…it's everything you want in a circuit to make for good racing".

The final round of the 2010 Yokohama V8 Ute Series will hit the streets of Homebush on Friday, 3rd December, for Practice (09.55 and 15.10), before the points start flowing on Saturday with Qualifying at 08.30 and Race One at 11.00, and the final races of the year to be run on Sunday at 09.05 and 11.40.

"It's the last one for the year, and it's certainly going to be a tough and exciting round with a lot up for grabs at the pointy end of the Championship, and a last chance for everyone else to show what they've got... there's no room for error."
