Smallwood Receives Prize Porsche

Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge ‘Driver of the Year’ for 2010 Peter Smallwood visited the HQ of Porsche Cars GB yesterday, November 25th, to receive his prize of a road-going Porsche Cayman S for a year. The keys were handed over by Geoff Turrell, General Manager Marketing and Sales for Porsche GB, the occasion also marking the close links between Porsche Cars GB and the Porsche Club GB that run the series.

“It’s great to accept the Cayman from Porsche GB,” said 45-year-old Smallwood, “and I’m still really pleased with how the season went and to have this prize is just a fantastic topping to the year. I also get to go to the Porsche Night of Champions at Weissach, which I am really looking forward to.

“I am now shopping for a 997 GT3 to run in the series next year.”

“It’s nice to be able to support the Club,” explained Geoff Turrell, “with the GT3 Cup Challenge being a series rather than a championship it’s great to be able to put up a special prize. It ties in nicely with the Porsche Carrera Cup GB in that the three class winners there get the use of a Porsche for a year and it is pleasing that we are able to extend this to the GT3 Cup Challenge.”

2010 was the first full season of racing for Towcester-based Smallwood, who only had his first race in October 2009. Running a 996 GT3 Cup car in Class Two of the GT3 Cup Challenge, he clinched the award on count-back after tying on points with season long rival Bertie Carruthers.

2010 was the first season of the Porsche Club GT3 Challenge, the series being a Porsche concept used in nine other locations worldwide, with the UK joined by Japan, Eastern Europe, and Scandinavia in starting up their series in 2010.
