It's not often that a racecar driver benefits from a bad race start, but Western Sydneysider Colin Sieders was able to do just that in the opening race of the final Fujitsu V8 Supercar Round for 2010, on the streets of Homebush Olympic Park yesterday.

Starting Race 1 from 21st position on the grid, Colin avoided the first corner mayhem and continued put in a solid performance to finish 14th in only his fourth race in two years. "My jump in race one was terrible," said Sieders, "I got a bit of wheelspin, then got bogged down, but at least I wasn't caught up in all the dramas at turn one like I was at Townsville".  "This circuit is a pretty tough track, and there were a number of cars that I passed because they had either missed a corner, or been turned around by them," said Sieders, "I missed turn one once myself, but was pretty happy to be in the Top 15 like we had aimed for". Suffering a few technical issues on the opening day on Friday, as well as coming in contact with the wall in both Practice One and Qualifying, Colin found the car had a good race package, but will need some tweaking for Race Two.

"I wasn't able to get many good laps on the track before the race; gearbox and throttle issues kept me out of Practice Two, and the car was a little unsettled in the Practice One and Qualifying after hitting the walls early in the sessions." "The car was pretty good on the way into the corners, and we could catch the guys in front, but I just didn't have the power coming out, and that made it pretty hard to make up too many positions."

With a brand new-look design and backing from Bisley Workwear this weekend, the team were forced to scramble on Friday afternoon to get the car right for the Meeting Rides with the Naming Rights Partner. "After Practice Two, we had a couple of hours to replace the gearbox and fix the throttle issue, as we had three of the Bisley guys out to do a hot lap in the car, including one who was celebrating his 50th birthday"

"We only fired up the car about 30 minutes before we had to head out for the rides, but it all was working great, and it was good to get another good look around the circuit."

Colin Sieders will be looking to build upon his Top 15 result when the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series hits the track for the final time this year at 12:25pm today. "We were aiming for a Top 15 result coming into the round, and with a few changes we want to run in the [one minute] 33 seconds mark, maybe crack 32 seconds, for lap pace, and try to get closer to the Top 10"
