VIC Gooden, the man who resurrected Poole Speedway back in 1958, has died a few days short of his 90th birthday.Gooden brought the Pirates back into league action just a year after they had withdrawn from competition, before departing for Ipswich in 1960 after the Knott family had taken over. He passed away on Boxing Day.Amongst those paying tribute were legendary sports commentator Dave Lanning, who said: "It was Vic who was responsible for leading me into a career as an announcer and commentator. It was Vic who plunged a microphone in my hand during my first year as the club's Press Officer. He has a lot to answer for!"

BIRMINGHAM owner Tony Mole and manager Graham Druy are set to meet the club's supporters for the first time since their elevation to the Elite League.The Brummies' move into the top flight was one of the surprise developments of the winter, and the Perry Barr club have already stated their intentions with the signings of Krzysztof Kasprzak and Daniel King.Mole and Drury will attend a fans' forum on Thursday, and Drury said: "We are looking forward to getting together with the supporters to fully explain the reasons why we have taken such a bold step as joining the Elite League."I'm sure there will be a big turnout, everyone is so excited about the new season and we are looking forward to great days ahead for Birmingham Speedway."
