(SPEEDWAY 1) HUGELY popular former Cradley Heath Speedway co-promoter Les Pottinger has died after a battle with illness. Les, 87, was part of the furniture at the old Dudley Wood Stadium as a supporter, loyal sponsor and latterly on the club's management team. The family tradition continues with one of the sport's most famous names as his grandson Will is the current team manager of the Dudley Heathens in the National League. Son Dave Pottinger said: "This is a very sad time for the family and everyone who knew Dad, because of his illness it was a matter of when rather than if and thankfully he passed away peacefully at home. He worked until he was 80 and a large part of his life was spent enjoying his Speedway." (SPEEDWAY 2) DANIEL King is hoping his winter switch to Birmingham can also aid his chances of international recognition this season. King wants to establish himself as a top performer in the Elite League and also force his way back into Rob Lyon's Great Britain plans for the World Cup. King said: "My priority obviously is to do a job for the team and help Birmingham become a success in the Elite League which is obviously a major challenge for us, but we are very much up for it. "And I would like to race in the World Cup for Great Britain. I travelled to Denmark with the squad last season but knew realistically there was no way I was going to get into the team and I want that to be different this season."
