Alex Lynn selected for Team UK

Alex Lynn has been given recognition of his talent as a motorsport star of the future with selection for the prestigious Team UK scheme.

Team UK is the driver-development programme of the Motor Sports Association, British motorsport’s governing body, and has chosen 17-year-old Lynn among seven racing drivers and three rally drivers for guidance in 2011.

It is operated by the Brabham Performance Clinic, with ex-Formula 1 racer and reigning American Le Mans Series champion David Brabham acting as National Race Coach. The pinnacle of the MSA Academy, Team UK provides driver coaching, sports psychology, and fitness and dietary programmes.

Talking about Lynn’s selection, Brabham said: “We’re always looking to see who is out there and Alex started to show some true potential during the course of the 2010 season. He seems a very natural fit in the Team UK squad.

“We are confident he will have a very good season this year. His rate of learning is quick, and the scheme will provide the education he needs in terms of becoming a professional racing driver.”

In his first full season of car racing, Lynn lifted the 2010 Formula Renault UK Graduate Cup title and then, with three overall race wins, he claimed the Formula Renault Winter Cup crown against strong competition. He remains with Fortec Motorsport for 2011 when he will bid for the overall Formula Renault UK Championship.

Lynn is currently competing in the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand. The first round takes place this weekend, and testing began in style when Lynn was comfortably fastest in a special session for the ‘international’ drivers at Teretonga, scene of this weekend’s action.

“Everything’s going well on-track, and now with my selection for Team UK it’s going just as well off-track,” said Lynn. “I am honoured to be selected alongside some very good drivers, and that big names of motorsport such as David Brabham have placed their faith in me. Now all I have to do is prove that it’s justified!”
