Team GB face champions Poland in Speedway World Cup

Team Great Britain face the ultimate test in Event Two of this year's FIM PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna Speedway World Cup when they take on defending champions Poland at King's Lynn on July 11.

Tickets are now on sale - with an early bird discount for fans booking before July 1 - for the meeting at the Norfolk Arena. Event Two will also feature Russia and the winner of the qualifying round at Italian track Lonigo between Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Latvia. Event One at Danish circuit Vojens on July 9 sees last season's silver medallists Denmark host Scandinavian rivals Sweden.

They will also take on Australia, who will be determined to bounce back from their Race-Off elimination at the venue last year. The winner of the qualifier between Germany, Finland, the Ukraine and the United States at German track Landshut will join them. The top side from each event will progress directly into the SWC Final at Gorzow, Poland on July 16. Meanwhile, the second and third-placed teams will meet at the Edward Jancarz Stadium on July 14 to scrap for the remaining two Final spots in the Race-Off.

After watching Team GB storm to victory in front of a partisan crowd at King's Lynn last summer, BSI Speedway managing director Paul Bellamy cannot wait to see the Lions take on the world champions. He said: "It was a great event last year and I'm sure the Brits will have some patriotic fans behind them. But it will be tough for them against the Poles, who are chasing their fifth gold medal since the current format was introduced in 2001.

"The meeting will be a rare opportunity for British fans to see the likes of individual world champion Tomasz Gollob, world No.2 Jaroslaw Hampel, Rune Holta and Janusz Kolodziej racing on UK shale.

"And if you throw Emil Sayfutdinov and Artem Laguta from the Russian side into the mix, it should make for a great night of speedway. "I'm sure Event One at Vojens will be hotly-contested as well. The Danes will be determined to make up for missing out on the gold medal last year, but Sweden and Australia have also won the Ove Fundin Trophy in the past and I know they will fight them all the way."

Having hosted Team GB's epic triumph over Australia, Sweden and Finland at the Norfolk Arena last year, King's Lynn co-promoter Buster Chapman is determined to give fans another night to remember.

He said: "We're proud to have such a prestigious event at the Norfolk Arena again. Last year was one of the most memorable nights of speedway at King's Lynn and we hope to repeat it. "The fans were incredible and it makes you proud to be British. I'm sure there will be a fantastic atmosphere and we'll get some great racing."

Supporters buying their tickets for the King's Lynn event before July 1 can make big savings.

A family ticket for two adults and two under-15s costs £35 and is only available until June 30. Adult standing tickets are £15, with OAPs and under-15s paying £5. But these prices will rise to £20 for adults and £10 for OAPs and under-15s on July 1.
