WOLVES skipper Peter Karlsson scored a superb maximum at Lakeside to help his team salvage an Elite League point against the Hammers.Lakeside took a 48-45 victory despite the mid-meeting loss of Lee Richardson, who suffered tissue damage and missed both Heats 13 and 15 when Karlsson combined with Freddie Lindgren for maximum advantages.Karlsson said: "My bikes are working well and I'm feeling confident on them, so obviously I'm happy with my start to the season."I just hope it continues like this, but there's a long way to go and we've got some important matches coming up."

RYE House manager John Sampford says the Rockets' useful away point at Somerset on Friday provided compensation for last week's home result. The Rebels won a thrilling contest 46-44 at the Oak Tree Arena, but ex-Somerset men Jordan Frampton and Jason Doyle combined for 24 points between them for the visitors - who were left to rue a Heat 12 stoppage for reserve Nelson.Sampford said: "That blown engine robbed us of at least one match point, as we were confident of getting a drawn result from Heat 12 rather than the 4-2 we actually conceded."Having said that, we achieved the minimum target we set ourselves beforehand by taking away a match point, and it's one that makes up for the point we dropped last week at home to Sheffield."

SCUNTHORPE bounced back from their big defeat at Ipswich to get the better of another of the Premier League's fancied clubs, Newcastle, at the Eddie Wright Raceway.Reserve Viktor Bergstrom (15+1) and new signing Ben Wilson (13+1) starred for the Scorpions, although the Diamonds snatched a point from the meeting in Heat 15 thanks to a 5-1 from Mark Lemon and Stuart Robson.Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: "We're in the entertainment business and that meeting was ten out of ten for entertainment. It was such a close match all the way through and to win the meeting was simply the icing on the cake."Of course it would have been nice to grab the bonus point but as the season goes on I think we'll more and more start to see this as two points gained rather than one dropped."
