BIG EVENT LATEST...

GREAT Britain Young Lions bosses Phil Morris and Neil Vatcher say supporters attending the British Under-21 Final will be in for an all-action night of racing. The full line-up and riding order has been confirmed for the Lakeside event on April 15, with Joe Haines defending his title and sure to receive tough competition from former champion Tai Woffinden and in-form Josh Auty along with a host of other rising stars. And Super7even series organisers have announced good news for fans, with the adult admission price for the event reduced by £1 on last year, and no other increases. The pricing policy, which will apply for this event only, is: Adults £15, Concessions £12, Children £3, Under-5s Free, with a souvenir programme available for £4.Morris said: "We'd like to send out a plea to fans from far and wide to come and support your riders. It's sure to be a great night of racing, we have several stars of the future on show, and there are usually some surprises in this event."We are sure the lads will show that Great Britain does have talent ready to climb the speedway ladder to success, and they are all going to be desperate to make their mark in this meeting."The amendment to the initial line-up to the event, which was decided following the recent semi-final, sees Stoke's Jaimie Pickard promoted to the main field after the withdrawal of Ben Hopwood.Ben Taylor has also withdrawn from being the second reserve, which means that Pickard's Stoke team-mate Ben Reade takes the No.18 position, with Dudley's Tom Perry elevated to No.17.Competitors have further incentive to perform well at Purfleet with a place in the World Under-21 qualifier at Lviv, Ukraine up for grabs. With Polish riders being pulled out of World Under-21 events, Great Britain were awarded an extra place in the Herxheim qualifier on April 17, and that will be taken by Kyle Newman, who joins Haines, Josh Auty and Jerran Hart in the event. The highest-placed finisher at Lakeside with the exception of those four riders and Tai Woffinden, who is concentrating on senior events this year, will take Britain's fifth spot in the World series.

BRITISH UNDER-21 FINAL LINE-UP (in riding order): Jerran Hart, Tai Woffinden, Steven Worrall, Kyle Howarth, Jaimie Pickard, Paul Starke, Josh Auty, Joe Jacobs, Jason Garrity, Ashley Morris, Brendan Johnson, Kyle Newman, Ashley Birks, Marc Owen, Shane Hazelden, Joe Haines. ELITE LEAGUE LATEST...

BELLE VUE boss Jim Lynch is looking to take revenge over Eastbourne for the Aces' recent defeat at Arlington when the Eagles visit Kirkmanshulme Lane next Monday.Lynch said: "They took all three points at their place so we need to take our revenge by winning by seven or more to take all three in the return."They are a strong side, especially on their own track, and I am looking forward to coming out on top in what could be a tough match."BIRMINGHAM manager Graham Drury says the response to the Brummies' televised Elite League opener has been overwhelmingly positive.Drury said: "I had text messages, calls and emails from a lot of people within the sport congratulating me on what a good meeting it was and how well the stadium and track looked on television."Tony Mole is enjoying his speedway right now, the crowd for the televised meeting was good and we had a massive crowd on opening night so he is pleased with Birmingham in the Elite League at the moment."EASTBOURNE are considering their options for replacing Dawid Lampart following the Pole's sudden departure from Arlington - and one possible option would be to elevate No.8 Taylor Poole to a doubling-up berth.Manager Trevor Geer told The Argus: "We have not got anyone sorted out at the moment. Taylor is very keen to do the job for us and he has been proving himself at Ipswich."We need another rider like him, young, up-and-coming, who doesn't ride for a Saturday track and is not already tied up with an Elite League team."KING'S LYNN boss Rob Lyon says there is plenty more to come from his team following their home win over Belle Vue last week when the Aces salvaged a point.Lyon said: "We put in a good performance last week to beat Belle Vue, but this week I would like the team to push forward some more. We still have a lot more to come from Mads (Korneliussen) and Niels (Iversen) and hopefully Tom (Topinka) will get back to his best, like we saw against Birmingham in the first match of the season."Once again though I am looking forward to seeing some more Elite League racing, there is no doubt it has exceeded all my expectations so far and I would imagine it will get better and better as more World Class riders visit us each week!"LAKESIDE have received the BBC London award for Outstanding Contribution to London Sport 2010, an award won last year by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.Hammers owner Stuart Douglas said: "It's an incredible honour. To have Speedway acknowledged in this way by the BBC is fantastic, particularly in the capital where the people have access to some of the best sports and clubs in the World."We have worked hard with the Hammers to keep our great Sport vibrant in London and the South East, and I'm thrilled that people like what we are doing. Hopefully, with the resurrection of the Hackney Hawks, also racing this year at the Arena-Essex Raceway, we have another of the region's historic Speedway names back to entertain the public."POOLE have seven points on the board from two away matches after a highly impressive display at Wolverhampton when they became the first visiting side in over two years to win an away match at Monmore Green.Promoter Matt Ford said: "The lads did us really proud tonight, we came here not at full strength with Darcy (Ward) still out and produced something of a rare result. Few teams have come to Wolverhampton in recent years and taken all the league points and it was a good all round effort."I am not going to single any one of them out tonight, they worked as a team and we have made a great start to the league campaign even though we are a match further in than what we had expected to be."SWINDON co-promoter Gary Patchett says the Robins should be back at full strength later this week after a nightmare Elite League opener at Belle Vue - with their Poles receiving start permission but with No.1 Scott Nicholls stuck in traffic and captain Simon Stead ruled out due to injury.Patchett said: "It never rains, it pours. We were handed start permission very late on Monday for the Polish boys but then it became clear Scott wouldn't make it and Simon wasn't fit to ride."We remain hopeful that we will be tracking a full seven-man team, if not at King's Lynn then certainly for our first home meeting on Thursday."WOLVERHAMPTON manager Peter Adams said there would be no panic buttons pressed after the ending of his side's long unbeaten home run in the Elite League by Poole on Monday.Adams said: "There was a lot of talk about the track but it's the same for both sides and Poole deserved their win. We're not offering any excuses as it was the same for both sides."And I would remind everyone not to get carried away, it's a very early stage of a long season."

PREMIER LEAGUE LATEST...

BERWICK promoter John Anderson says his side will continue to improve after notching their first Premier League points of the season with a hard-fought home win against Redcar.Anderson said: "At last we have points on the board, and it's only the first of many I'm sure as the side is finally showing the skills we know they have. There's still a rough edge here and there but we'll get that smoothed out soon."EDINBURGH'S new reserve Jay Herne suffered concussion in a crash at Armadale on Friday and is now a doubt for the Monarchs' opening Premier League fixture against Redcar.Herne missed the Premier Shield trip to Newcastle on Sunday, when a solid display from the Scottish side saw them just miss out on the silverware by a five-point aggregate margin.GLASGOW co-promoter Stewart Dickson took great encouragement from the Tigers' display at Edinburgh, where they went down by just two points in the first leg of the Spring Trophy.Dickson said: "I would like to think we are now favourites for the trophy after that excellent opening night. There were moments when things looked to be slipping a bit but our fighting qualities were there for all to see and there were so many positives to take out of that."IPSWICH are expecting their biggest challenge of the season so far when they host Somerset on Thursday as they look to complete manager Pete Simmons' target of nine points from their first three fixtures.Simmons said: "After the demolition of Scunthorpe last week we will face a much tougher test when Somerset visit Foxhall on Thursday. The visitors have a very strong Australian flavour with no less than five of their team coming from down under, and as our own Aussies have shown how much they love this place the team must all be on top form to grab maximum points."LEICESTER: The Lions staged a hugely successful opening fixture in front of a capacity 4,500 crowd at Beaumont Park on Saturday.Their challenge match against Sheffield was drawn 46-46 with Richard Sweetman and Sergey Darkin combining for 5-1s in Heats 13 and 15 as the home side made a late comeback from ten points down to force a share of the spoils.NEWCASTLE lifted silverware at the end of a successful weekend, clinching the Premier Shield against Edinburgh following an away win at Rye House and a point at Scunthorpe.Team boss George English said: "It has been a pretty good three days for us, and now we are ready to put our feet up for a little while before preparing for the return match against Rye House next Sunday. Every rider has contributed towards our successes over the busy weekend and it has been a real team effort."NEWPORT have signed reigning British Under-21 Champion Joe Haines as a replacement for Alex Davies, who suffered a broken vertebrae in a crash at Poole last Wednesday.Wasps boss Kevin Brown said: "'We obviously missed the points contribution that a rider of Alex's calibre would have brought when the Somerset Rebels defeated us last Saturday. We have plugged the gap with Joe being available and that will assist in our forthcoming fixtures against Sheffield away on Thursday and Ipswich at home on Saturday."PLYMOUTH: Devils boss Mike Bowden has postponed this Friday's scheduled season-opener against Team Viking, and the first meeting at the St Boniface Arena will now feature the visit of the USA touring team on April 15.REDCAR manager Jitendra Duffill was impressed with the performance of newcomer Matej Kus at Berwick on Saturday, and is now hoping for an all-round performance in their first home Premier League match on Thursday.Duffill said: "I draw particular comfort not only from the performance of Matej last Saturday evening in the Borders where he was top scorer, but how well he settled into the scoring groove in his home debut at the Motorpark last Thursday. It is important that we get our league campaign off to a positive start but it will tough against a solid Scunthorpe side."RYE HOUSE were left to rue an extraordinary Heat 2 which ultimately proved costly in their 44-43 home defeat at the hands of Newcastle on Saturday.Reserve duo Ben Morley and Nelson were in line for a 5-1 before Australian rider Nelson fell on the second lap - and in the re-run it was Morley who came to grief, handing the Diamonds a 3-0, with the visitors securing a 5-1 in the last race as Chris Neath was defeated at Hoddesdon for the first time in six meetings.SCUNTHORPE promoter Rob Godfrey is awaiting news on injured Finnish rider Tero Aarnio as they prepare for another important week of fixtures with Godfrey targeting an improvement on the road.He said: "Trips to Ipswich and Workington aren't going to be easy for any club but next week we're visiting Redcar and Leicester. Without being disrespectful to either club they are fixtures where any club stands a better chance of achieving something. Much will depend on the Tero Aarnio situation. Rider replacement is terrible and even worse when we've had to run it at number three."SHEFFIELD skipper Ricky Ashworth is pleased with the Tigers' start to the season, and feels they are capable of adding further points when Newport visit Owlerton on Thursday.Ashworth said: "We feel we've made a steady start by getting points from the two meetings we have raced in so far and obviously we will be looking to add to that against Newport. There's been some teething problems at the start of the season with the new silencers but hopefully things will settle down and we can go on and have a good season."SOMERSET promoter Debbie Hancock is expecting two major battles this week as the Rebels take on much-fancied Ipswich, travelling to Foxhall on Thursday and then with the Oak Tree Arena return the following night. She said: "It's not going to be easy, but then what match ever is? The Witches have put together an very strong septet and are understandably peoples' favourites for this year's Premier League title, but if we harbour ambitions to be up there challenging for honours then it is teams such as Ipswich that we need to be competing with."WORKINGTON promoter Keith Denham praised stand-in reserve Gary Irving after the Comets' emphatic opening-night home victory against Scunthorpe.Denham told the News & Star: "I always had faith in Gary. I knew he could trap well and he showed that tonight because when he was away from the gate very few people could pass him. I had confidence in him and he had confidence in himself that he could perform and we will probably use him until we see what the outcome with Kenny (Ingalls) is."
