BERWICK picked up all three Premier League points from an extraordinary clash with reigning champions Edinburgh. The Bandits broke the deadlock in Heat 4, which turned out to be the first of six successive maximum heat wins, but they still had to hold off a Monarchs' fightback before confirming a 53-39 win.Berwick boss Ian Rae said: "It was a very strange match, not one anyone could have predicted with deadlock in the first three races followed by no less than six Berwick 5-1s!"Then Edinburgh started firing 5-1s back at us again, but the lads held it together and took a deserved victory, but I have to point out what a superb ride Tamas (Sike) took in Heat 7 to hold out the tenacious Craig Cook for four laps - amazing race!"

WOLVERHAMPTON boss Peter Adams is calling on his lower-order riders to step up after seeing their home record broken by Poole last Monday.Wolves, who are preparing for a Monmore clash with Swindon, had held an unbeaten Elite League record of over two years around their own circuit prior to the defeat against the Pirates.Adams said: "We just cannot expect Freddie (Lindgren), PK (Peter Karlsson) and (Tai) Woffinden to score all our points, we will achieve nothing with a three-man team."We need the rest of the riders to start scoring the points we believe they can achieve and we'll be fine when they do. I'm sure where they are sorted out we will be challenging for the play-offs again which is our minimum target."

NEWCASTLE'S home win over Rye House came at a huge cost with No.1 Rene Bach hospitalised with a broken leg as well as collarbone and rib damage. The Danish youngster was involved in a Heat 10 collision with Jordan Frampton and went into the fence at high speed - and the Diamonds also have a worry over reserve Kyle Newman with a wrist injury.Manager George English said: "This was a tougher match than expected and I'm delighted we won all points available, but that is secondary in our thoughts at the moment as we await the full extent of Rene Bach's leg injuries in the hope they may not be quite as bad as they first seemed."Kyle Newman also took a knock and is off to see if he has any broken bones in his wrist - again, we're hoping not."

SCUNTHORPE boss Richard Hollingsworth reflected on a positive weekend after his side gained their first away win of the season with a 52-40 success at newcomers Leicester. The Scorpions achieved the result without injury victims Tero Aarnio and Carl Wilkinson, with Wilkinson's recovery period from a broken leg projected at twelve weeks.Hollingsworth said: "Results-wise the weekend has been a tremendous fillip for the club. We've gained a point at Redcar, dished out a heavy defeat to Rye House despite our reserves having to have fourteen rides between them and now got within a point of the club's record away win at this level."At the top of the order David Howe looks to be right at the top of his game again whilst Ben Wilson has been a revelation and is matching him blow for blow. Viktor Bergström is riding as well as he ever has and this really could be his breakthrough year."

SOMERSET have assembled a strong line-up for Friday's Emil Kramer Memorial Meeting as they pay tribute to one of their most popular riders.Kramer was tragically killed in a road accident in 2009, and promoter Debbie Hancock says the Swede would thoroughly approve of the Rebels' start to the season. She said: "I would like to think that Emil is looking down on us with some degree of satisfaction given the way the team have started. He was the consummate team man, and we have seven riders here that really want to work for the good of the team and that has showed in our results to date."We have assembled a field that we think is worthy of Emil's name and have tried to combine riders who had a connection with Emil together with some top Elite League riders and some of the current Somerset septet."

IPSWICH boss Pete Simmons was pleased to see his side bounce back from home and away defeats to Somerset with Saturday's victory at Newport. The Witches, who were the pre-season title favourites, dropped seven points against the Rebels but got back on track with a 50-42 win in South Wales.Simmons said: "For us to lose our unbeaten home record in only our fourth meeting was very disappointing, but with a bit of everything included in the home meeting last week the entertainment value was top-drawer."That great win at Newport on Saturday night helped put right the wrongs from the previous two days and my targeted five points from the three matches was nearly achieved. We must just forget all that happened against Somerset and move on."
