Help Sue Hallett

by  Carly Rathmell

In 2007 I met a rider, David Hallett and his family, in the British Superbike Paddock, David at the time was riding for the team I was working for, Hawk Kawasaki. In recent month I've been reading on Facebook about the struggles his lovely Mum Sue, who has been fighting Cancer and it really touched me, so much so I wanted to send the below out to my contacts to try and help her a little. If any of you could dig into your pockets and donate just as little as £5 it will help Sue and her family. I hope you will help. Please read more below.

RIDE FOR SUE - SUE'S SON CYCLING 182 MILES NON STOP THROUGH THE NIGHT

Cycling from James Paget Hospital, Great Yarmouth to

'The Mayfly', Hawkinge -

182 Miles in 16 hours.

Sue Hallett is a 52 year old Wife, Mum and Nan who was diagnosed with a GBM Grade 4 Brain Tumour in May 2010, this form of tumour is one of the most aggressive known to man. Sue had her Tumour removed in May 2010 and underwent Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy post op.

Sadly, Sue's tumour returned in February this year and an operation was performed to try and remove it, sadly not all of the tumour could be removed.

In just 3 months it had grown to the size of an orange!

After 10 days of fantastic recovery Sue sadly suffered 3 Major Strokes on the morning of Monday 28th March 2011.

As a result of the stroke Sue is now completely paralysed down her left hand side and is left unable to walk and with difficulty to speak. Sue was  discharged from hospital on Tuesday 5th April and will now need 24 hour care to help her with her daily routines.

Sues son David will be completing a fundraising event on Friday 15thApril 2011 to try and raise the funds needed to supply the care that Sue's going to need from now on.

Inspired by the Fundraiser that David's good friend Thai Smith completed in September last year David and Thai will be cycling the 182 miles from the 'James Paget Hospital' in Great Yarmouth where Sue was initially diagnosed to 'The Mayfly' pub in Sue's home village of Hawkinge. A journey of 182 miles.

David and Thai will travel to the James Paget Hospital on Friday 15th April and will commence the ride at 2100 hours and will ride through the night to arrive at the 'The Mayfly' at 1300 on Saturday 16th April. The boys plan to complete the ride in just 16 hours; this will mean the boys will have to keep an average pace of 11mph across the whole journey - no resting!

The route will finish with the boys riding down the A260 from Canterbury to Hawkinge passing through Denton, Selsted and Densole. David and Thai would love for Friends and Family to join them along the route and ride the final leg of the journey! If you'd like to complete more of the ride please contact David through Facebook.  If you can't do any of the ride your still more than welcome to join the family at 'The Mayfly' for when the boys arrive and to enjoy a few drinks afterwards.

Sue will be there at 'The Mayfly' in the afternoon to enjoy the day.

In the afternoon once the boys have arrived the family will be holding a raffle in 'The Mayfly' with prizes including:

 ·       2 x Eurotunnel Return Tickets

·       British Superbike Tickets to Round 1 at Brands Hatch on Easter Weekend

·       Port Lympne Zoo Tickets

·       Meal for 4 at the Mayfly

·       'That Nail Place' Gift Voucher

·       Basket of alcoholic drinks

·       Plus many more items on the day!!

Tickets will be available from local businesses (including 'The Mayfly') throughout the next 2 weeks but will also be available on the day of the raffle. We would love for you to join us to enjoy the day.
