PETERBOROUGH skipper Nicki Pedersen made the perfect start to his World Championship campaign with victory in the season-opening European Grand Prix at Leszno.Pedersen, whose early season sharpness has been helped by his return to the Elite League this year, got the better of reigning champion Tomasz Golllob in the Final, with Emil Sayfutdinov third.Pedersen said: "I wanted to show everybody I am an important part of the Grand Prix series. I've had two awful seasons and it has been very tough for me. But I feel hungry again, I raced as well as I could and I had the speed."Halfway through the meeting I thought I had lost the momentum a little bit. But we made the clever decision for the final to change bikes and it was even faster. It's about setup all the time. I'm pleased and it was a fantastic, fantastic track to ride."

SOMERSET collected their fourth away win of the season at Leicester on Saturday to go four points clear at the top of the Premier League table.Rebels boss Debbie Hancock paid tribute to the supporters after the 50-40 success at Beaumont Park, and she feels her side can keep things going despite a forthcoming riding order re-shuffle due to new May averages. She said: "Not only was I proud of the team tonight, but also with the fantastic support given to the boys by the masses of Somerset fans that made the trip up to Leicester to support them, it was quite unbelievable."Obviously things now change with Dakota (North) moving up into the main body of the team, but hopefully the momentum we have built up in getting us to where we are at this stage of the season will continue as we head into May and beyond."

SCUNTHORPE boss Richard Hollingsworth admits he is surprised by his side's inconsistency - but he believes they can take revenge over Edinburgh on Monday. The Scorpions were well beaten 60-32 at Armadale on Friday but expect to be a different proposition at home, in the first meeting of a double-header which also features the National League visit of Hackney.Hollingsworth said: "It is difficult to understand why we can do so well at Redcar and Leicester and then struggle badly at other tracks. We just have to stay positive and ensure we keep picking up the wins at home. "Edinburgh have a good record at our place so we will need to be on top of our game but there is no denying we have the side to win meetings in front of our own fans."
