Al Harthy Announces Porsche France Outing At Dijon

Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship racer Ahmad Al Harthy is delighted to announce the participation of the Oman Air Racing Team in the latest round of the French national series this coming weekend, 14th/15th May, at Dijon-Prenois in the east of the country. The Muscat-born racer, who is currently third in the Pro-Am 1 Class driver standings in the British championship having finished on the podium at each of the three events contested so far in 2011, is relishing the opportunity to compete for only the second time in his career in mainland Europe.During the Porsche Carrera Cup France support event to the world-famous Le Mans 24 Hours Race last year, Ahmad made history as the first Omani to ever turn a wheel at the French track. Since that time, the 29-year-old has become an ever-improving force in sportscar racing and he now can't wait to sample the undulating Dijon-Prenois circuit.Branching out into mainland Europe is extremely significant for Ahmad, not just for his sporting ambitions and experience but perhaps even more importantly for the commercial opportunities it will bring for his sponsors - Oman Air, Nawras, National Bank of Oman, Brand Oman, Oman Ministry of Sports Affairs and Oman Ministry of Tourism. In particular, the event is of major importance for Oman Air with Charles de Gaulle International Airport in Paris being one of the most recent additions to the carrier's destination list - France being a prime target market. Developing both business and tourist traffic to and from the country is one of Oman Air's key aims as the Sultanate's national airline continues its impressive expansion."This is a fantastic opportunity for me, for the Oman Air Racing Team and for Oman as a whole", said Ahmad, "We will do the very best we can on our first visit to Dijon, I can't wait to get on track."Ahmad's first experience of Dijon-Prenois will come on Friday, 13th May, with the drivers enjoying three, one-hour test sessions. An additional practice will take place on Saturday, 14th May, ahead of qualifying for both encounters. The opening race of the weekend is scheduled to get underway at 10.35 (local time) on Sunday, 15th May, and - in a break from what Ahmad is used to in the British championship
