BERWICK star Hynek Stichauer will be out of action until early next month due to his ongoing shoulder problems. The Czech Republic rider first picked up the injury in freak circumstances, before a race in the Bandits’ win over Scunthorpe in April.Despite a rigorous programme of physiotherapy, Stichauer’s severely-dislocated joint is responding only slowly and the rider has been told he will not be ready to resume racing until early in June.Team boss Ian Rae said: “Hynek will have to wear a specially-designed shoulder brace every time he gets back on his bike. This will be a permanent requirement until the end of the season, at which point he will have to go under the knife for an operation to make a permanent repair.”

NEWPORT are set to continue in the National Leaague – although attendance levels at Queensway Meadows will be monitored.Club owner Steve Mallett stated before last weekend’s Knockout Cup tie with the Isle of Wight that the Hornets’ future was in serious doubt.Mallett said: “The attendance for our most recent home match in the cup was still not good enough but we had a meeting of senior management and decided to persevere for now.“However, we do appeal to Newport fans that if they want us to be able to run a second team then they must get down here for the next home fixture against Mildenhall on Bank Holiday Monday May 30th and show their support.”

DUDLEY will take a six-point lead to Belle Vue in the National League Knockout Cup after winning an abandoned first leg 45-39.Heathens’ Ashley Morris and Colts’ Kyle Howarth, who both gave outstanding performances, crashed heavily in Heat 15 causing extensive fence damage. Morris walked away having hurt his wrist, whilst Howarth suffered a collarbone injury.Dudley boss Will Pottinger said: “It's hard to say whether we've done enough, but it's nice to have a lead to take up there. We had to work hard for it and credit to all the boys, they've given us everything.“We had some misfortune along the way but so did Belle Vue. It was a cracking meeting.”
