WORKINGTON defeated Leicester with their biggest winning margin of the season to keep their Premier League title challenge well on course.Heavy rain just over an hour before start time put the meeting in jeopardy, but following additional track work the meeting went ahead with the Comets running out 59-31 winners.Boss Tony Jackson said: “Full credit to the track staff, who cleared away the water and re-graded the surface to get the meeting on, and to both sets of riders who were prepared to give it a go in far from perfect conditions. “This can reduce any home advantage you may have, but the lads came through the test with flying colours.”

PETERBOROUGH will hand a home debut to in-form Richard Lawson in their Elite League clash with Birmingham at the Showground on Monday.Lawson, who is scoring well for Workington in the Premier League, replaces fellow squad member Dakota North who is still some weeks from fitness after suffering a broken finger.Lawson said: “I jumped at the chance of riding for Peterborough when they called me earlier in the year and I’ve been waiting for the chance to get some more rides.“I’m happy with my form and even though it’s a long drive down from where I live I would never have turned it down.”

BIRMINGHAM boss Graham Drury admits the form of Polish star Krzysztof Kasprzak is a big concern. The Brummies No.1 has struggled since his return to the team after a controversial ban imposed by his Polish club earlier in the season.Drury said: “People need to realise that KK isn’t on any financial guarantee with Birmingham Speedway, he is simply on points money and he flies over here from Poland and employs a mechanic so it’s hitting him in the pocket.“I’ve had a lot of conversations with KK and in many ways I feel sorry for the lad, we will continue to work with him to try and get it right but if he cannot sort it then we will need to look elsewhere.”

MILDENHALL are through to the semi-finals of the National League Knockout Cup after completing a comfortable aggregate win over Hackney. The Fen Tigers took a 28-point lead into Saturday’s second leg at Hoddesdon and won that meeting too, 50-42, to set up a last-four clash with the Isle of Wight.Co-promoter Michael Lee said: “It was a tremendous team performance. All the boys played their part right from the off and weren't daunted by the slick track. “James (Brundle) looked sharp after his injury and Joe (Jacobs) was superb again and would have had more if he hadn't come off in the last race, and Danny (Halsey) showed he still knows the quickest way around Rye.”
