Suzuki Europe MX2 will embark on their final representation with Simone Zecchina on the RM-Z250 in the FIM Motocross World Championship this weekend at La Bañeza and the Grand Prix of Spain.
The teenager will steer the factory-backed machine for the third time in as many weeks and will aim to grab some more GP points before thinking about the second round of six in the European 125cc two-stroke series - that he currently leads - in Sweden in two weeks.
The Italian made his debut in France a fortnight ago and picked up points at his first attempt. Learning to deal with the frantic pace of the MX2 class and the longer duration of the motos have been the hardest aspects for the 18 year old to grasp.
La Bañeza should provide an interesting challenge for Zecchina thanks to it similarity to a 'traditional' Italian track: a tight layout, fast sections and corners, hard-pack soil that is loose in sections and some fun jumps.
"It has been a pleasure to have Simone as part of the team and we have liked the way that he hasn't seem fazed at all by the opportunity or by some of the riders on the track with him," said Team Manager Thomas Ramsbacher. "He is a cool customer and I really believe what he has been able to digest in his short time with us will make him stronger in his quest to win the two-stroke title this year. We will take an extra special interest in how he does in that series. Hopefully Valentin Teillet will be able to ride next week in Germany and for the Grand Prix in Sweden the following weekend the team should be back to normal."
The weather forecast for the weekend is good and predicts sunshine and temperatures in the mid-20s.
