Atech CRS GP successfully concludes Spanish GP3 test

Atech CRS GP successfully completed the final mid-season two-day test at the Circuit de la Comunitat Valencia-Ricardo Tormo yesterday ahead of next weekend’s rounds of the GP3 Series at the Spanish track. On Thursday Swiss racer Zoel Amberg led the way for the Leicestershire team, winding up tenth fastest and on Friday it was the turn of Marlon Stockinger 11th fastest, as Briton Nick Yelloly concentrated on race simulations and set-up.With scorching hot conditions predicted later in the day, the trio and the rest of the 30-car grid were keen to make the most of the cooler temperatures early in the day and took to the track for the morning session. A red flag 30 minutes from the end of the session prematurely ended their charge, with just one final run remaining when the lights again turned green. In Friday’s final test, the team was greeted with overhead cloud, and once again were quick to take to the track, spending much of the day thereafter working on race simulations and setup ahead of the third round which takes place around the Valencia street circuit next week. Another red flag in the final ten minutes ended any chance of improvement, but nevertheless, in a field of 30 cars, in which the top 21 were covered by a second, the trio remain optimistic ahead of the race weekend.Marlon Stockinger: “I feel we had a very good test, the team did a great job, and we covered a lot over the course of the two days, with plenty of development work and much progress made. I wound up 11th at the end and the car performed very well in the warm conditions, which will hopefully be the same for the race weekend. Overall I feel we are moving in the right direction and look forward to a good result next weekend.”Nick Yelloly: “I struggled a bit over the opening day and a half with getting the best out of the car and the tyres, but this afternoon it all came together and I feel much happier with the direction we’re going in. Today I concentrated on getting some decent runs in and improving my braking points which worked well as I ended up much closer to the lead cars and I feel now I can easily make up a few tenths more when it comes to qualifying. I’m looking forward to getting into the race weekend.”Zoel Amberg: “It was a fairly good test this week and I’m looking forward to a good outing next weekend. I feel I’m continuing to make really good progress with Mick Cook, my new engineer and hopeful we can continue to move forward into qualifying and the remainder of the season.”Team Principal David Hayle: “It was a fairly promising outing overall with a lot of progress made with all three drivers. We spent much of the first day carrying out development work and race simulations and are fairly confident we’re going in the right direction with regards to set-up which should hopefully allow us to be on the pace in the next rounds in Spain.
