Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup title challenger Carl Breeze closed to within just 19 points of the championship lead at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire on Saturday, 18th June, by finishing in fourth place during the 12th round of the season for Total Control Racing.Although just missing out on his 10th podium of the season by only a second, Breeze ended the first of the weekend's three races comfortably ahead of series leader Tom Sharp. Prior to Sunday's 13th and 14th rounds, the Kings Lynn driver has a great opportunity to go in to the seven-week summer break very much on the front-foot.New team-mate Tim Harvey delivered unsurprisingly outstanding pace on his debut in a Ginetta G55 but his podium hopes were dashed on lap 10 when unfortunate contact with the tyre-stack at the chicane, while dicing closely with Stefan Hodgetts, led to a broken steering arm and retirement.Harvey was the best of the TCR drivers in qualifying with a time of 1m25.116 seconds (89.97mph), just over a 10th of a second faster than Breeze, which placed them third and fourth on the starting grid respectively following the demotion of Sharp due to a penalty.Harvey got away well in third and despite slipping to fourth behind Hodgetts at Sunny In on lap one, he fought back at the start of lap three but was edged dramatically close to the pit-wall for his efforts. The delay gave Breeze the opportunity to move through into fourth place but the positions switched on lap six at Tower when Harvey went through on the brakes. With light rain falling to make conditions very tricky, the TCR cars circulated strongly in fourth and fifth - Breeze considering his own move into Tower on lap nine - before Harvey's enforced visit to the pits came the next time around.Breeze, therefore, claimed fourth place at his team-mate's expense and although slipping to sixth when bundled back by Sharp and Colin White, he fought back well to just miss out on the podium at the chequered flag on lap 15.Speaking on the race, team principal Lee Brookes said: "It's disappointing neither Tim or Carl could be on the podium as they both deserved to be today. They had good pace, were very evenly matched, and were just unfortunate to miss out. Carl's in a better position in the championship now though and we know Tim will be fighting hard tomorrow - he's adapted to the car fantastically well."TCR's Dixon takes outright points lead in Clio CupJames Dixon took the outright points lead in the AirAsia Renault Clio Cup UK during round nine of the season, the TCR driver importantly keeping championship rival Paul Rivett at bay to finish just half a second ahead at the chequered flag. In doing so, the Stockbury racer has taken a slim two point lead at the head of the standings.Qualifying took place in unpredictable conditions and increased rainfall during the session meant those who posted quick laps at the start would be best placed come the finish. Unfortunately for TCR's quartet, none were able to challenge for pole but Tom Grice was a competitive fourth fastest, Mark Proctor was a season-best fifth, Dixon an uncharacteristic 12th and Nicolas Hamilton 15th.At the beginning of round nine Proctor got away very well to move up to fourth place ahead of Grice but, just ahead, third placed Luke Wright had a spin out of the chicane into the tyre barriers which led to red flags and a stoppage. Prior to the cessation, Grice unfortunately made a visit into the tyres himself at the complex and his car needed some swift repair work prior to the re-start.The TCR mechanics did a fantastic job to get Grice's Clio ready so he lined-up at the end of the pitlane in readiness for the action getting back underway. Due to several cars not making it out for the re-start, Proctor would start second, Dixon eighth and Hamilton 11th.Proctor held second off the line, but slipped to third at Tower on lap one, while Dixon made immediate progress into seventh as Hamilton ran an excellent 10th with Grice pursuing in 11th position as he attempted to make up lost ground. With a big queue forming behind Proctor, the former BTCC racer held on well but contact with Josh Files at the hairpin on lap five dropped the TCR man to seventh. Dixon, unfortunately, got held up in the aftermath but he fought back well into an eventual finish of fifth.
Proctor held on to seventh to post his best result of the year - along with the Masters Cup class victory - while Grice climbed back to ninth with an impressive drive and Hamilton notched-up yet another strong finish in 11th place."Mark had by far his best race in Clios today", said Lee Brookes, "He did well to hold third early on and the contact at the hairpin was unfortunate. James came through very well after qualifying, the most important thing was to finish ahead of (Paul) Rivett which he did. Tom showed his true pace again to fight back well from the pitlane start and Nicolas did yet another great job."Round 13 of the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup will take place at 12.50, Sunday, 19th June, with round 14 following at 16.00.
