Hansford takes first V8 Ute win, while Jane Assassinates the Darwin Round

.‏Melbourne driver Kim Jane won Round 3 of the 2011 Auto One V8 Ute Racing Series - protected by Armor All, whilst Ryan Hansford claimed his first V8 Ute race win in Race 3, and Ryal Harris won Race 4 at the Sky City Triple Crown at Hidden Valley Raceway, Darwin, Sunday, 19th June.

Jane, known as "The Assassin," started off the day on Pole for Race 3 alongside Hansford in his Truckline Ford. Although the Bob Jane T-Marts Holden driver fired off the line, Hansford took him on turn 8 on the first lap and increased his lead significantly by lap 2 to take out his first race win."When Kim ran wide, I was able to get up the inside. I had good car pace, just watching and concentrating really hard. It's a relief to win and a big weight off my shoulders. My Manager Rod Dawson really believes in me, so it's good to have someone like that," said the son of the late motorcycle champion Gregg Hansford.

In fifth was David Sieders, who was working his way through to the front, firstly taking Coopers Clear Racing's Jack Elsegood on Lap 2 to put himself in a nice position to take Jane, which he did on Lap 4 in his Australian Industrial Supplies backed Ford. Sieders tried hard to catch Hansford but the Rookie did well to hold him out.

Ryal Harris was another driver on the attack and raced from ninth to fourth, just ahead of Jack Elsegood in fifth and Monster Energy backed Nathan Pretty in sixth. Thirsty Camels, Craig Dontas claimed seventh from Grant Johnson (Holiday Inn/Corestaff), Chris Pither (Ice Break Racing) and Cameron McConville (Bundaberg Racing) who rounded out the top ten.

After his team worked overnight to repair his car with parts from Gary Carsons Go! Channel's Ford, Red Ass Mexican Food backed Ben Dunn was unable to finish Race 3 due to a broken Gearbox.

Also unable to finish was George Elliot (DIC/Vittoria Coffee) who lost his steering after an incident in Turn 1 and drove straight into the tyre wall at Turn 2, which put him out for Race 4.

Rhys McNally was also a non-starter for the Race after sitting out Race 3 due to a bout of Gastro the day before.

Starting on the front row for Race 4 was Hansford and Sieders, the former V8 Supercar driver getting a great start off the line leaving the Rookie behind. Harris, also quick off the line was right on Hansford and took him early in Lap 1 right before an altercation between Nandi Kiss, Peter Burnitt, Andrew Fisher and Brad Patton, (all who were lucky to stay in the race).

Harris continued the hunt for first and made the move under brakes on Sieders in Turn 7 on Lap 7, Sieders again came in second but it was enough to give him second overall for the Round.

Jane pressured Hansford all the way, finally taking 3rd spot in the Terrace Hairpin from the Ford driver to bag enough points to give Holden the round win, and Jane's first for the year.

Nathan Pretty, Chris Pither, Grant Johnson and Cameron McConville were also involved in a race long battle for fifth. Pretty came out the victor in his Monster Energy backed Holden with Craig Dontas and Sage Automations/Roof Seal driver Gary Baxter rounding out the top 10.Jeremy Gray had a powerful race moving from the back of the grid to finish in 11th in his Tinkler Motorsport Ford BF.Craig Dontas claimed the Champion Spark Plugs Hole Shot Award and $500 cash. Kim Jane was awarded the SS Inductions Hard Charger Award and $500 cash and Peter Burnitt the V8 Ute Masters Award for placing 18th for the Round. Graham Edwards won the Armor All best presented award. After the four race Darwin format, David Sieders is back in the lead of the ENZED Drivers Championship on 293 points, 13 points clear of Holden's Grant Johnson, and Ryal Harris 2 points further back. Chris Pither has slipped from the series lead in the Ice Break Holden to 4th overall, while Kim Jane has moved into the top 5 for the first time after his strong Darwin performance."We had great pace from the first practise session, we did make an error with tyre pressures in Race 3 which allowed Ryan and David to get through, however we had a great fight back with Ryan in Race 4 to take the overall round win. I am rapt with the win for Bob Jane T Marts and Adrenalin.com, and after a slow start, the championship is starting to turn for me," the former Nascar champ said. The V8 Utes will head to Townsville next for Round 4 of the 2011 Auto One V8 Ute Racing Series - protected by Armor All but to re-cap on Round 3 tune in to Network Seven, Saturday 2nd July at 12:30pm.
