Nasr and Tincknell share the Brands Hatch F3 victories

Championship leader Felipe Nasr claimed a brilliant fourth win of his Cooper Tires British Formula 3 season at Brands Hatch this afternoon, the Carlin driver mastering a treacherous wet track in Round 12 to claim victory by a 24-second margin. In Round 11, series newcomer Harry Tincknell scored his maiden victory, the 19-year-old from Exeter keeping his head in an incident-strewn race to claim the Fortec Motorsport team's second win of the weekend.Round 11The first race of the day was marred by a startline shunt involving three cars, which led to a lengthy safety car period as debris was recovered. But pole-sitter Tincknell, who had made a brilliant start to lead his more experienced rivals into Paddock Hill Bend, who went on to calmly nail the restart and, despite intense pressure from Menasheh Idafar for the ensuing 10 minutes of race action, stayed ahead to claim victory."Starts are something that I have really been working on," said Tincknell. "I have kind of found the 'sweet spot' with them, and luckily I managed to do it again today and that really set me up for a good race. The safety car gave me a chance to cool the tyres down and think about making a good restart, which I did, and then it was just a case of getting back into the rhythm."The opening-lap clash involved the cars of Hitech's new recruit, Max Snegirev, and Fortec man Fahmi Ilyas, both of which careened into the Brabham Straight barriers. Sino Vision Racing's Hywel Lloyd caught some of the fall out and had to retire to the pits. None of the drivers was injured; the safety car spent five laps on track, using up half the allotted race time.Tincknell's excellent restart meant Idafar had no opportunity to pass. Said T-Sport driver Menasheh: "Around this track it's quite hard to pass and it had to be done at the restart. Harry made a good one and I couldn't take him."Carlos Huertas made a superb start from sixth on the grid to slot into third place on the opening lap, and the Colombian Carlin driver held third for the duration, pursued to the chequered flag by Double R's Scott Pye, the Australian scoring his best-yet British Formula 3 result.Jazeman Jaafar slotted into sixth at the start and then found a way past his team-mate and championship leader Felipe Nasr at the restart to move into fifth. Nasr came home sixth ahead of Rupert Svendsen-Cook, Saturday race winner Lucas Foresti, Pietro Fantin and Sino Vision man Adderly Fong, who collected his first point of the season.Kevin Magnussen's problem-filled weekend continued when his car developed a misfire on the warm-up lap and had to be wheeled off the grid by the Carlin mechanics. They sorted the problem and he rejoined 17th and last, going on to put in a superbly aggressive drive to rise to 11th by the end. Will Buller, who was tipped into a spin at Graham Hill Bend on lap one, recovered to set fastest lap and claim 15th.The Rookie class provided a race-long battle between Japan's Kotaro Sakurai and Dutchman Bart Hylkema, led by Hitech man Sakurai all the way to Surtees on the final lap, where the duo clashed and spun. Both cars were damaged and had to limp around to the line, Sakurai snatching the class win within sight of the flag.Round 12Heavy showers before the start meant a full set of wet-weather tyres was the only option for the field but, unlike yesterday's round 10, a further downpour mid-way through the race denied the crowd the excitement of pit stops and tyre strategy.Rupert Svendsen-Cook led the way for Carlin for the opening six laps, but Nasr - who had snatched second from Adderly Fong on the opening lap - was on his tail throughout and not about to be denied. Graham Hill Bend on the seventh lap was the Brazilian's selected spot to execute the pass, which he performed perfectly to seize the lead and demote Svendsen-Cook to second. That was the last Nasr's pursuers saw of him, despite a brief safety car period while the stranded car of Pipo Derani, which had been in collision with that of Max Snegirev, was retrieved from a tricky spot.Nasr, whose victory margin was the largest of the season so far, said: "It was a very exciting race. At the beginning it seemed like a repeat of yesterday; the track was drying out very quickly and I thought we would struggle towards the end, but then the rain came again: perfect for us. The car was just great, I made no mistakes and it has been a brilliant weekend." Felipe's title lead over Foresti is now 45 points.Svendsen-Cook's second came under pressure from Hitech man Pietro Fantin, the Brazilian's impatience to pass boiling over five laps from the end, when he tried an ambitious pass around the outside at Paddock Hill Bend. Their cars made contact and spun, Rupert limping to the pits and retirement. This collision promoted Foresti to second; the Brazilian admitted he was somewhat fortunate: "I was a bit lucky maybe. I was fast but I didn't put everything together to win. There were a few mistakes, unfortunately. But I still made second place and it is great for Fortec to have second and third also." Lucas's efforts were further rewarded with the Sunoco Driver of the Weekend trophy.Buller made steady progress from sixth on the grid, picking up a place when Kevin Magnussen pitted for repairs to a damaged front wing. He was then boosted to third by the Fantin/Svendsen-Cook clash. Jazeman Jaafar, with whom Buller had made contact in the morning race, followed the Ulsterman home for fourth, ahead of Carlos Huertas. The Colombian endured a nightmare opening lap, slipping to 10th from fourth on the grid, but recovered to fifth by the end.Racing Steps Foundation driver Jack Harvey claimed by far his best finish of the season with sixth spot, ahead of Hywel Lloyd (the sole surviving Sino Vision Racing car, after Fong spun off), Scott Pye and Harry Tincknell. Fantin crossed the line 10th.There were no alarms or excursions this time for Bart Hylkema on his way to his eighth Rookie class victory of the season; the Dutch T-Sport man kept ahead of his class rival Kotaro Sakurai all the way to the flag with a level-headed drive in the tricky conditions.British Formula 3 enjoys the headlining support of Cooper Tires and is additionally backed by Sunoco Racing Fuels, Anglo American Oil Company and OAMPS.Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International SeriesRound 11, Brands Hatch 19/6/201113 laps / 31.63 milesProvisional results Championship class1 Harry TINCKNELL / GBR, Fortec Dallara-Mercedes 20m 02.952s / 94.66mph2 Menasheh IDAFAR / GBR, T-Sport Dallara-Volkswagen +0.609s3 Carlos HUERTAS / COL, Carlin Dallara-Volkswagen +2.371s4 Scott PYE / AUS, Double R Dallara-Mercedes +2.828s5 Jazeman JAAFAR / MAS, Carlin Dallara-Volkswagen +3.166s6 Felipe NASR / BRA, Carlin Dallara-Volkswagen +4.704s7 Rupert SVENDSEN-COOK / GBR, Carlin Dallara-Volkswagen +5.319s8 Lucas FORESTI / BRA, Fortec Dallara-Mercedes +5.884s9 Pietro FANTIN / BRA, Hitech Dallara-Volkswagen +6.728s10 Adderly FONG / CHN, Sino Vision Dallara-Mercedes +9.094s etcRookie class1 Kotaro SAKURAI / JPN, Hitech Dallara-Mugen Honda +1m 10.366s2 Bart HYLKEMA / NED, T-Sport Dallara-Mugen Honda +1m 27.471sFastest lap Buller 1m 18.103s / 112.15mphRound 12, Brands Hatch 19/6/201126 laps / 63.27 milesProvisional results Championship class1 Felipe NASR / BRA, Carlin Dallara-Volkswagen 41m 05.110s / 92.39mph2 Lucas FORESTI / BRA, Fortec Dallara-Mercedes +24.531s3 William BULLER /GBR, Fortec Dallara-Mercedes +26.884s4 Jazeman JAAFAR / MAS, Carlin Dallara-Volkswagen +28.804s5 Carlos HUERTAS / COL, Carlin Dallara-Volkswagen +30.414s6 Jack HARVEY / GBR, Carlin Dallara-Volkswagen +34.220s7 Hywel LLOYD / GBR, Sino Vision Dallara-Mercedes +37.916s8 Scott PYE / AUS, Double R Dallara-Mercedes +38.507s9 Harry TINCKNELL / GBR, Fortec Dallara-Mercedes +42.419s10 Pietro FANTIN / BRA, Hitech Dallara-Volkswagen +44.488s etcRookie class1 Bart HYLKEMA / NED, T-Sport Dallara-Mugen Honda +1m 22.396s2 Kotaro SAKURAI / JPN, Hitech Dallara-Mugen Honda +1m 25.172sFastest lap Kevin MAGNUSSEN / DEN 1m 30.496s / 96.79mph
