Worlds Greatest Track Awaits Al Harthy at inaugural Porsche Carrera World Cup
THIS SATURDAY Breath-taking, awe-inspiring, remarkable, unparalleled...the superlatives to describe Germany's world famous Nürburgring-Nordschleife race track are endless and this Saturday, 25th June, Oman Air Racing Team driver Ahmad Al Harthy will experience the circuit for the first time in his career. The inaugural Porsche Carrera World Cup will bring together around 200 drivers from across the globe to take on the incredible 14 miles of asphalt - and 29-year-old Ahmad will be proudly flying the flag for Oman in, what will be, his greatest challenge so far. In addition to the 'World Cup' aspect, the race will also be the ninth round of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship in which the Muscat driver is currently second in the Pro-Am 1 standings having achieved one class win and five other podiums from the eight races completed so far in 2011. No other motor racing venue is as daunting as the twisting, undulating German track which sweeps through the Eifel Mountains. During its long, storied history Nürburgring-Nordschleife has become infamous - it's a circuit which to this day demands the utmost in respect, concentration and ability. This Saturday's race will be contested over six physically and mentally draining laps of the unique track, meaning a total distance of around 85 miles. Such will be the popularity to motor racing fans, approximately 250,000 spectators are expected to attend this massive event. "This is without doubt the biggest challenge of my career so far, a very proud moment for me and everyone involved within the Oman Air Racing Team", said Ahmad, "Nürburgring -Nordschleife is the greatest test for any driver, it's the most demanding track in the world. It will be a huge honour to represent Oman, the people of Oman and all of my sponsors in such a prestigious event."
