PSR re-launches with Rotax addition and Comer Cadet partnership

Piers Sexton Racing (PSR) has re-launched, bolstered by the addition of a Rotax division, the arrival of highly-regarded mechanic Stuart Wright, a full campaign of WSK competition and a feeder link to Comer Cadet front-runners Eclipse Motorsport.

Formerly predominantly concentrated on the MSA (KF) side of karting, PSR is now branching out, and will henceforth also attack Rotax competition as a full-scale operation for the first time. The effort will be spearheaded by Wright, a man with years of expertise in that area and whose record palpably speaks for itself.

Wright helped to engineer current Formula Renault UK star Jordan King to glory in the CIK-FIA Asia-Pacific Cup and blue riband Kartmasters event in 2009, as well as securing the runner-up laurels in the British Super 1 Series at Mini Max level in 2008 and – as part of PSR – the WSK Master Series Vice-Champion position last season.

Prior to that, he had achieved similar successes with Max Goff, with victory in the 2007 Monaco Kart Cup and Bridgestone Cup and second place in the BRDC Stars of Tomorrow (now Formula Kart Stars) title standings at Mini Max level.

Wright will act as PSR Rotax team manager, with the team set to enter Super 1, FKS, Kartmasters and club meetings at PF International, Kimbolton, Whilton Mill and Shenington in 2011. Luke Stark (Mini Max) and Jacob Stilp (Junior Max) are the first confirmed drivers – the latter also pencilled in for Kartmasters – and the pair dominated their respective classes first time out in the Shenington Superprix earlier this month, with Stilp claiming a clean sweep of fastest laps for good measure. More spots are available inside the team.

“I’ve been looking after Luke for the past few club meetings, and he has won his last three,” Wright reveals. “He’s still only 11, but he’s certainly showing great potential and he’s flying at the moment, as is Jacob. Regarding the available places, we can cater for all levels of drivers from novices right the way through to British Champions.”

PSR plans to operate an open awning in which drivers can choose what equipment and chassis they use, with further services on offer including carburettor and kart preparation, data analysis, fitness advice and engines and carburettors for hire, whilst Sexton’s role as a UK importer for Lucky Design helmets means all accessories are readily available. Throw into the mix the link with James Bean’s Eclipse outfit to help ease the progression from Comer Cadet level up the karting ladder, and Wright contends that it all makes for a very compelling package.

“Between us, Piers, James and I cover every area of karting possible – Cadets, Rotax and MSA – and we’re all good friends, too, which definitely helps,” he explains. “This is about the three of us going forward together for the future.”

Sexton – in charge of PSR’s comprehensive MSA (KF) assault upon Super 1 and the WSK Series – was one of the co-founders of multiple British title-winning concern Fusion Motorsport, before moving on to focus more upon the European scene, with considerable success in the Euro Rotax Challenge. Between them, he and Wright can boast nigh-on four decades’ combined experience in the sport, and as such are able to offer driver tuition from the very best in the business.

“Stuart and myself have worked together for a long time with various drivers,” says Sexton. “He knows the Rotax market very, very well, and he has obviously achieved a lot of success in the past in that sphere. I feel we can build a strong bond together and establish a strong Rotax team with Stuart at the helm. We are committed to providing a professional, value-for-money service in every class.

“The relationship with Eclipse is important, too, and has been in the offing for quite some time – ever since I ran James towards the end of his own racing career. It will enable Cadet drivers to progress and choose between
