Vermont crossed the line first, but was disqualified after the raceSpa-Francorchamps, 25 June 2011
Fabio Gamberini (West Tec) was declared winner of Race 1 of the European F3 Open inSpa, after the disqualification of William Vermont (Top F3) after the race for atechnical irregularity in his car.
The Frenchman had won an eventful and spectacular race on a wet and slippery track,despite starting last following a sanction after qualifying. Second was Noel Jammal(Cedars) and third the other Brazilian of West Tec, Victor Correa.
At the start, Fumanelli led in the initial laps, while fighting closely with Gamberini,Monje and Cunha. Gamberini took the lead in lap 2, while Monje and Cunha collided atthe bus stop and got out of the race in lap 4.
In the meantime, Fumanelli was losing positions after a contact, while Vermont andFontana (who had spun at La Source at the start) were charging up, and Sistos spun inlap 8.
Vermont, who had joined second position, took the lead from Gamberini following amistake of the Brazilian at the bus stop two laps from the finish, while Jammal crossedthe line third ahead of Correa and Fontana.
In the Cup, behind winner Gamberini, Jesús Ríos (Top F3) took second and Belgium’sSam Dejonghe (West Tec) third in front his home crowd.
