Jordan gets Australian opportunity

Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan is currently in Australia taking part in a competition for a place in the biggest race in Australia, the Bathurst 1000 in October. The Shannons Supercar Showdown is pitting 10 ambitious young drivers against each other in a reality TV series, and Andrew is the only driver from Europe selected for this incredible competition.

Andrew (22) is making use of the summer break in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship schedule to take part in the competition, in which one candidate is eliminated each week until the final winner is decided. The prize is a drive with Kelly Racing in the famous Bathurst race.

For Andrew this is a fabulous one-off opportunity, earned as a result of his performances with Pirtek Racing in the BTCC. He’ll be back in the BTCC for the next races at Snetterton in early August when it will be business as usual in his bid for more wins in the British Touring Car Championship.

The winner of the Showdown will race alongside the show’s host, TV personality and racing driver Grant Denyer, in the Shannons-Mars Racing entry at the Mount Panorama track. Viewers will meet the people behind the scenes of a motorsport race team, from engineers and mechanics to designers, dieticians and personal trainers. The 10 finalists, including three female drivers, will eat, sleep and train with Kelly Racing during the evaluation process. Over the series they will be eliminated one by one until only the best of the best remains.

In order to get to Australia in time for the start of the programme, Andrew had to rush straight from the latest round of the BTCC at Croft on Sunday 19 June and needed a helicopter shuttle to get him to Manchester in time for the flight to Australia. Due to the nature of the competition and the TV scheduling, he will not be able to talk about the competition and its result until after the final TV programme has been aired.

The TV programmes covering the ‘Shannons Supercar Showdown’ will be screened on Australia’s 7mate channel on Saturday afternoons, starting 23 July.
