(SPEEDWAY 1)COVENTRY boss Alun Rossiter hailed guest Tai Woffinden for his 15-point haul in the Bees’ 49-44 Elite League victory over King’s Lynn. But Rossiter was less happy with the events of Heat 15 which saw home man Emil Sayfutdinov disqualified when Mads Korneliussen came to grief, as the Stars took an important away point back to the Norfolk Arena.Rossiter said: “Okay, some decisions go for you and some against you, but everyone could see this yet the referee was adamant that Emil went across Mads' line. When you see the replay, it’s more and more infuriating.“I’m still pleased with the win, especially being without several riders, and we couldn’t have asked any more from Tai. He gave everything for the cause and I can’t thank him enough. Some people say riders don’t give their all when they guest, but Tai certainly did that and more tonight.”Friday’s other top-flight action saw Lakeside move to within a point of the play-offs thanks to a 48-41 win over fourth-placed Belle Vue, with Piotr Swiderski (16+1) and Lee Richardson (14+1) both scoring well for the Hammers.(SPEEDWAY 2)EDINBURGH produced a strong second half of the meeting to overcome Newcastle – with teenage reserve Kyle Howarth playing a vital role.Howarth, recently back from injury, offered the Monarchs a score of eight (paid nine) in what has been a problem position for the reigning Premier League champions this season.Craig Cook top-scored in the 53-39 win, despite the two sides having been level after Heat 8, and Monarchs boss John Campbell said: “There was one man who made the difference to our side tonight – Kyle Howarth.”In Friday’s other Premier League meeting, Somerset defeated Plymouth 48-42 with the visitors claiming an away point, whilst Scunthorpe beat Ipswich 53-37 in their Knockout Cup replay – but it was the Witches who went through on aggregate.
(SPEEDWAY 3)GLASGOW have signed former Leicester man Richard Sweetman to replace long-term injury victim Josh Grajczonek.Sweetman will, ironically, make his debut against his old club at Ashfield on Sunday, but the Tigers do have a concern over an elbow injury for skipper Joe Screen which could yet require a season-ending operation.Co-promoter Alan Dick said: “I am well aware that Richard has been suffering from poor form and we know that his confidence is pretty low too, but here at Glasgow we have a number of Australians who are friendly with him, and I am sure having familiar faces around him in the pits will make a wee difference.“The bad news is with Screeny. He has had an injection which hopefully will allow him to get through to the end of the season but he will not know the effect it has for another few days, and as a consequence he must sit out for the next seven days.”(FIXTURES)
