The indefatigable CominiWhether in collective testing or in the race, Stefano Comini (Oregon Team) is only ever happy when hes in the lead. The undisputed leader of the Eurocup Mgane Trophy has once again recorded the fastest times in both the days practice sessions. Bas Schothorst (TDS Racing) and Niccolo Nalio (Oregon Team) are putting up a fight, but the Swiss driver is clearly the favourite yet again this weekend. There are a few changes to the lineup in the Eurocup Megane Trophy. After their baptism into the category at the Nrburgring, Sebastian Stahl and Gregory Guilvert are back. The Frenchman is staying with Team Lompech Sport, while the German is joining the ranks of Equipe Verschuur. Peter Peters, who raced for Equipe Verschuur at Spa-Francorchamps, is once again driving for the Dutch team.TDS Racing dominated the start of the session, with David Dermont in the lead ahead of his teammates Wim Beelen and Bas Schothorst. The TDS Racing trio took turns at leading the session before Stefano Comini joined in. The winner of the first six races of the season took command with a lap of 1:53.129 just before the session was interrupted when Angelo Baiguera (Brixia Horse Power) crashed out.The track was cleared in time for Bas Schothorst to post his name at the top of the timesheet. But as has happened so many times this season, Comini reacted immediately. The Swiss driver set a leading time of 1:52.345 just before the rain came in a few minutes before the end of the session. Second and third fastest were Fabien Thuner (Boutsen Energy Racing) and Niccolo Nalio (Oregon Team), while Bas Schothorst had all his times disallowed for failing to follow the racing line. The duel between Schothorst and Comini continued in the second session, but this time they had Niccolo Nalio and David Dermont for company. The Oregon Team drivers began to gain the upper hand. Niccolo Nalio took advantage of fast track conditions towards the end of the session to record a time of 1:51.976. His teammate, Stefano Comini, initially came close, then went quicker than Nalio. The duel thus became more intense as the session drew to a close. Once again, Comini had the last say, recording the fastest lap of the day in the Eurocup Megane Trophy (1:51.226). Bas Schothorst was second fastest, followed by Niccolo Nalio and Fabien Thuner.Drivers comments: Fabien Thuner: Theres no magic formula, so were working hard to close the gap on Oregon and TDS. For me, this means qualifying well, as Ive been a bit unlucky in qualifying since the start of the season. I wouldnt say the Hungaroring is my favourite circuit, but its such an incredible event. There are always so many people and theres a great atmosphere, so its a good place to do well at.
Gregory Guilvert: The weekend at the Nrburgring went well, so here I am again! The morning session was to learn the circuit and it wasnt easy on slicks in the rain at the end. My aim is clear: have fun, climb the podium and collect the prize money so I can go to the next race.
Sebastian Stahl: I conducted tests with Franz Verschuurs some time ago, but there wasnt a drive available at the Nrburgring so I started with Brixia Autosport. But it was obvious I would join the Equipe Verschuur as soon as possible until the end of the season. I have to learn the Hungaroring circuit as I dont know it. The tests went well and we are quite optimistic for the rest of the weekend.
