26th to 8th for Johnston in British Supersport

Race 2 - Snetterton

In the muggy weather conditions at the new Snetterton 300 circuit in race two of the Fuchs Silkolene British Supersport Championship the East Coast Racing riders Lee Johnston and Gary Johnson, Lee salvaged eighth place and unfortunately Gary had to retire to the pits on lap seven. The air temperature was 22 degrees and the track temperature a stunning 45 degrees which was going to make tyre choice vital.

From the times from yesterday's first race Lee Johnston placed the East Coast Racing Honda on the front row in fourth place and Gary Johnson moved from 17th to 14th on the race two grid for the 15-lap race.

Lee was unable to take advantage of his front row start and was swallowed up into the first turn and was touched by another rider, lucky to stay on. He regrouped and was ninth after the first lap he then ran off the track on lap two and dropped to 26th place. Leaving himself with a massive amount of work to do, Lee got his head down and was one of the fastest riders on the track throughout the race and battled his way through to a stunning eighth position.

He said "The first lap was very fraught and once again I got a shocking start and got boxed into turn one and two which frustrated me. I lost a bit of concentration and ran off the track on the second lap and rejoined near the back, I knew I'd have to get my head down to try and get some Championship points. Some how, from 26th I managed to get eighth place but it was very hard work and it annoys me even more because I knew I had the pace to run near the front. I'm pretty annoyed with myself and just need to get back to the air field and get my starts practised again!"

Gary Johnson's weekend did not get any better in race two when the bike continued to suffer with issues. He said "It's been a bit of a nightmare weekend and I guess things just weren't meant to be for me this weekend. We missed a lot of sessions and never really got a proper set up on the bike, hopefully we'll be able to have a good look at it before the next round at Oulton and start getting some more decent results. I like the fast flowing Oulton circuit and hope we can get back on the pace there."
