Sumo Power Impresses in Spain and the UK

- at the same time! While the Sumo Power GT team was claiming a podium finish in the sixth round of the FIA GT1 World Championship at the Navarra Circuit in Spain last weekend, its spare GT-R was at the Goodwood Festival of Speed impressing the crowds with a series of fast runs and tyre burn-outs on the famous hill climb course. FIA GT1 World Championship A great drive by Jamie Campbell-Walter and David Brabham saw them score an impressive third in Sunday's Championship Race at Navarra. And, if it wasn't for a slight delay during the pit stop, they may have even finished first! This excellent result added to a fourth-place finish in the Qualifying Race the day before and is their second podium result of the season. Joining the team for this race was 23-year old Dutch driver Nick Catsburg, who partnered Enrique Bernoldi in the other car. Unfortunately, they did not fair quite so well, when an electrical problem forced them into retirement during Saturday's race and a drive-through penalty for a pit-lane infringement meant that 12th was the best they could achieve in Sunday's race.  However, the team was delighted with the pace of its two GT-Rs, which performed over and above their expectations on the tight and twisty Spanish track where they thought the cars would not be quite so strong. The team now turns its attentions to round seven of the global sportscar series, which takes place at Paul Ricard in France on 16th & 17th July. This will be the final round that takes place in Europe. So, if you want to see the two Sumo Power GT-Rs in action, this will be the last opportunity before they are shipped off to China and then South America - unless you can make it to these races as well! Goodwood Festival of Speed Under sunny skies and in front of 1000s of spectators, Nissan's FIA European GT4 Championship and GT Academy driver Alex Buncombe gave spectators a taste of what a Sumo Power GT-R is capable of.  Driving the team's T-Car, he performed two demonstration runs up the 1.16-mile hill climb course that passes through the grounds of Goodwood House. And, whilst it wasn't being driven, the car was on display in the paddock, where the public had a rare chance to see a GT1 Nissan GT-R close-up. The team was proud to have one of its cars appear at the world's most prestigious annual motorsport gathering and to take its place alongside some of the legendary machinery on display.
