(SPEEDWAY 1)WOLVERHAMPTON owner Chris Van Straaten has confirmed the club are looking to make changes in time for the resumption of the Elite League campaign a week on Monday.Van Straaten says only the powerhouse top three of Freddie Lingdren, Peter Karlsson and Tai Woffinden are safe as the Monmore men consider their next move.He said: “The three heat-leaders are safe. But for all four of the rest of the team, we are going to look at all the options.“It’s not easy. Even though we are towards the bottom of the table, we are still over the points limit, so any changes have to be on a like for like basis. But if we can improve by changing one or even two riders, then we will.”
(SPEEDWAY 2)SCUNTHORPE’S reserves made the difference as the Scorpions defeated a spirited Leicester side 53-40 at the Eddie Wright Raceway.Using rider-replacement for the injured Viktor Bergstrom the home side needed big performances from Thomas Jorgensen and Steve Worrall, and the duo responded with 17+1 and 9+2 respectively.Manager Richard Hollingsworth said: “David (Howe) rode like an out and out number one but Stevie Worrall deserves special mention. Like Thomas he’s still a teenager and he just goes from strength to strength. “They were paid for twenty-nine points tonight and that was the difference between the two sides. The pair are young and learning their trade so have an occasional off meeting but tonight they are improving all the time and tonight were exceptional.”(SPEEDWAY 3)GLASGOW co-promoter Stewart Dickson is urging is side to make the most of their stunning away record by not slipping up in some big matches to come at Ashfield. The Tigers have six away wins on the board already, three more than any of their fellow Premier League title challengers, and Dickson wants to see that momentum continue. He said: “Whilst we will obviously be going all out to win more (away) in the first phase of fixtures, it does allow us also to concentrate more on our home fixtures where we must remain unbeaten and then all the pressure goes on the chasing teams to match that and go out and win a significant number of away matches too.“I am aware that we have the top teams to race in the coming weeks which makes this a great month ahead both home and away, but I back this team 100% and we will watch with interest to see how they go.”(SPEEDWAY 4)HACKNEY moved level on points with National League leaders Dudley by taking the maximum from their home clash with the Isle of Wight at Purfleet. The Hawks achieved their 58-35 win despite a first-race hand injury suffered by No.1 Shane Hazelden, but 15-year-old Brandon Freemantle came in for praise after picking up nine (paid ten) from five rides.Joint-boss John Sampford said: “If there was a man of the match, it had to be Brandon. He rode so well to win Heat 2 and Heat 14, but to see him out-gate the Islanders’ top two in Heat 13 was something else. “It has taken time for him to find his feet in the National League - it’s fair to say that it’s been a baptism of fire. But we have persevered, he has persevered and the last two or three meetings have seen that effort pay off.”(FIXTURES)
