AN old favourite makes a return to Rockingham this weekend (July 16/17) when the British Sports Car Club (BRSCC) makes the first of its two summer visits to the Northamptonshire circuit.
As always motor racing fans are in for a real treat as the BRSCC brings variety to the circuit in the shape of its Clubman’s Race Weekend, featuring the world famous Caterham sports cars through to the hot hatches and supercars.
The novices from the Caterham Academy will be testing their racing prowess on the fast, but technical, 1.94 mile International Super Sportscar Circuit, while the spectators can expect the usual overtaking and general mayhem.
Joining them on the bill will be the successful one-make saloon car championships in the BRSCC calendar, the Ford XR Challenge, and continuing on the Ford theme, there will also be action from the Ford Fiesta and Ford Fiesta Junior.
The BRSCC Porsche Championship also returns this season but joining them on the grid will be two guest series involving the iconic supercar– the Porsche Club Championship and the Porsche GT3.
The weekend also sees the Production Gti Series make its Rockingham debut. New for 2011, this series caters for 8v and 16v mk2 Volkswagen Golf GTIs with fast and furious racing guaranteed.
Rockingham Director, Charlotte Orton, said: “The BRSCC have been holding club race meetings at the circuit since we opened, so we are delighted they are returning with two fantastic events in our 10th anniversary year.
“The Clubman Race Weekends are a great spectacle of motor racing as it offers a variety of different racing marques, making sure there is something on the bill for everyone to enjoy from the supercars to saloons.”
During each meeting there will be plenty of opportunity to get close to the racing action with an open paddock and free grandstand seats for everyone. There is the usual off-the-track entertainment including Rockingham’s in-house race simulators.
With children aged 15 and under getting in FREE and adult admission tickets frozen at 2008 prices, families are guaranteed the chance to enjoy a whole day of racing at a price they can afford.
