SPEEDWAY News and fixtures

(SPEEDWAY 1)WOLVERHAMPTON have made two additions to their Elite League squad – with two of their current line-up also set to link up with Premier League teams. The Monmore men have named James Grieves and Tero Aarnio in doubling-up roles along with Ludvig Lindgren, who has recently joined Berwick, and Ricky Wells who is heading to Plymouth.Boss Peter Adams said: “We feel these changes will benefit both Ludvig and Ricky, who have shown glimpses of what they are capable of this year, but require more regular and confidence-building riding in the Premier League.”We’d also like to welcome James and Tero to the club, James of course being a rider we know well, and we look forward to them making appearances in the team.”(SPEEDWAY 2)BELLE Vue have signed 22-year-old Polish rider Borys Miturski to fill the gap left when Dawid Stachyra quit last month.Miturski will make his Aces debut in their Elite League fixture at Wolverhampton on Monday, with his first Kirkmanshulme Lane appearance in the return two nights later.Miturski is a Polish Under-21 international who has been with his powerful home town club, Czestochowa, since 2005 but is currently riding on loan for Second Division Krosno.Aces boss Jim Lynch said: “We have gone for a rider who is well recommended. He is not tied to a British club which means he can become a Belle Vue asset and it is important we build up our own pool of riders.”(SPEEDWAY 3)RICHARD Hall made a successful return to Scunthorpe with a ten (paid eleven) score in the Scorpions’ 52-41 win over Newport in the Premier League.Hall was one of four home riders to hit double figures with Ben Wilson, Tero Aarnio and Thomas Jorgensen also in good form at the Eddie Wright Raceway.Boss Richard Hollingsworth said: “For three riders to score below par on one night and for us to ease to victory is no small feat and it is exciting to think about what we can achieve over the rest of the season. We have a two week break now but hopefully we can continue the form of recent weeks.”Elsewhere, Plymouth’s Mark Simmonds suffered a suspected broken wrist in the Devils’ 28-64 defeat at Edinburgh – and title-chasing Glasgow crashed to a heavy 31-62 loss at rivals Somerset.(SPEEDWAY 4)HACKNEY kept up the pressure at the top of the National League table by completing a quickfire double over Buxton. The Hawks added to their 50-40 away win last weekend with a 54-41 success at Purfleet, David Mason top-scoring with 16 points and Barrie Evans and reserve Ben Hopwood both being paid for 15.Joint-boss John Sampford said: “We got the result we wanted. We were cruising at Heat 12, but the 8-1 in Heat 13 changed matters a bit. In the end, David and Barrie trapped in the final race to make absolutely sure there was never a chance of Buxton getting a repeat result there.“You can’t underestimate the contribution of our top three, but we needed the other riders to also score, and they did. Ben (Morley), in particular, was doing well until he hit mechanical problems in his fourth ride, and he eventually had to borrow a bike when he came out for Heat 13.”(FIXTURES)
