(SPEEDWAY 1)EASTBOURNE boss Trevor Geer says scoring maximum points at home will be vital to the Eagles' hopes of maintaining their top four place in the Elite League. The Arlington side return to action on Monday after a month-long break with the visit of Coventry, whose Russian star Emil Sayfutdinov will be making his first appearance at the Sussex venue.Geer said: "Sayfutdinov is the most exciting and fearless rider to come into speedway in recent years and he is the rider everyone wants to see. It's going to be fascinating to see how he negotiates Arlington."We cannot afford any more slip-ups at home and need three league points from every home meeting that remains."(SPEEDWAY 2)SHEFFIELD have gone four points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a 48-45 win at Leicester on Saturday. The Steel City side took the points despite an 18-point maximum from home debutant Magnus Karlsson, and extended their advantage with nearest challengers Glasgow and Workington - who both have matches in hand - suffering rain-offs.Sheffield co-promoter David Hoggart said: "We were always concerned that we could be somewhat disadvantaged as Leicester had strengthened up after several other teams won there, so we're delighted with the result."But Magnus proved to be a great opponent and I'm sure he's going to do a fine job for Leicester during the second half of the season."(SPEEDWAY 3)POLAND clinched an historic third successive World Cup title with victory in a thrilling Final at Gorzow on Saturday. The hosts were off the pace early on, but inspired by captain Tomasz Gollob they charged back into contention and ended the brave challenge of Australia in the penultimate race, with Sweden edging out Denmark for third place.Gollob said: "We made some changes to the bikes and we won. I think it was set-up we struggled with at first, but then every guy went out and had a good meeting. To win a third title is fantastic for Poland."It was a good meeting for Jarek (Hampel), and Piotr Protasiewicz did well in his last two heats. We've had a very good team and a very good competition. I have to say thank you to all the guys for their co-operation this week."(FIXTURES)SUNDAY JULY 17:PREMIER LEAGUE: Newcastle v Berwick 6.30, Workington v Ipswich OFFNATIONAL LEAGUE KO CUP S/F 1st leg: Mildenhall v Isle of Wight OFFMONDAY JULY 18:SKY SPORTS ELITE LEAGUE: Eastbourne v Coventry 7.30, Peterborough v Lakeside 7.30, Wolverhampton v Belle Vue 7.30PREMIER LEAGUE: Glasgow v Ipswich 7.15TUESDAY JULY 19:NATIONAL LEAGUE KO CUP S/F 2nd leg: Isle of Wight v Mildenhall 7.30WEDNESDAY JULY 20:SKY SPORTS ELITE LEAGUE: Belle Vue v Wolverhampton 8pm, King's Lynn v Peterborough 7.30THURSDAY JULY 21:SKY SPORTS ELITE LEAGUE: Birmingham v Lakeside 7.30, Swindon v Eastbourne 7.30PREMIER LEAGUE: Redcar v Plymouth 7.30PREMIER LEAGUE KO CUP: Ipswich v Newport 7.30, Sheffield v Workington 7.45
