Double victory in France for JRM Racing!

JRM Racing scored a resounding double-victory at this weekend's round seven of the FIA GT1 World Championship at Paul Ricard in the south of France, when Michael Krumm and Lucas Luhr drove the team's number 23 Nissan GT-R into first place in both Saturday's Qualifying Race and Sunday's Championship Race. This perfect pair of results for Krumm and Luhr puts them back on top of the Drivers' points table and moves JRM Racing into second in the Teams' Championship standings. In contrast, the bad luck that has plagued their team-mates Peter Dumbreck and Richard Westbrook in car 22 continued. Initially things looked extremely promising for the British pair when they qualified for the first of the weekend's two races in Pole Position. But then, the rapid degradation of their tyres saw them finish fourth in race one which was followed by a non-finish in race two, after a problem with their car's rear suspension forced them to retire with just three laps to go. Qualifying and Qualifying Race In Friday's practice sessions the team was pleased to see that, as predicted, its two Nissan GT-Rs immediately showed impressive pace around the fast Paul Ricard circuit. However, the track's abrasive surface meant that getting the best from the tyres would be a key feature of the weekend.  Krumm showed his intentions from the start by going quickest in the first of the three qualifying sessions, with Westbrook fourth. As the circuit temperature increased, things became tougher for Luhr and Dumbreck in Q2. But, with both setting times in the top eight, it meant that Krumm and Westbrook were able to fight it out in Q3, where car 22 claimed its second Pole Position of the season and car 23 secured P2 - making it an all JRM Racing front row. Both Nissans got away well at the start of the Qualifying Race, with Dumbreck in car 22 closely followed by Luhr in car 23 until lap four, when the safety car was deployed after an Aston Martin hit a barrier and had come to rest in the middle of the track. Once the race recommenced, the two JRM Nissans continued to circulate line-astern - right up until the compulsory mid-race pit stop to change tyres and drivers.  Dumbreck was first to 'pit' on lap 11 and swapped with Westbrook, with Luhr coming in to hand over to Krumm a lap later. But, with car 23 gaining two seconds during the stop, it meant that Krumm joined the race just ahead of Westbrook and claimed first place in the process. Although trying to get past Krumm two laps later, Westbrook could feel that his tyres were deteriorating far quicker than he had hoped and, instead of challenging for the lead, he found himself fending off the advances of the two Aston Martins behind him.  With very little grip left, the last lap saw first one - and then two - of the Astons forcibly push their way past, which meant that Westbrook could do no more than claim the spoils for fourth place. Although it had just had its second one-two result of the season snatched away, the team was still delighted to have taken its fourth race victory so far this year. Qualifying race results (pdf) <http://www.rpmpromotions.com/jrmotorsport/pdf/GT1QualifyingRaceResultList.pdf Championship Race With the results from race one dictating the start positions for the second, it meant that Krumm was in Pole position for the main Championship Race. However, due to a raft of penalties applied by the Stewards to all the cars that had driven across the circuit's many run-off areas and gaining an advantage in the previous day's Qualifying Race, it meant that Westbrook in car 22 lined-up sixth on the grid. A great getaway by Krumm saw him lead into the first corner and, although closely followed by the Aston Martin of Tomas Enge for the next two laps, as the Nissan's tyres came up to temperature Krumm started to pull away and, lap-by-lap, he increased his lead. Westbrook also had a good start and maintained sixth place before also finding that, when his tyres came into their own, he could push harder and consequently went past a Ford GT and into fifth on lap four. By the time the mid-race pit stop window opened, Krumm had increased his advantage to nearly four seconds, whereas Westbrook was pushing hard for fourth place and was the first to pit on lap 12. Krumm came in a lap later and following the stops, both JRM cars rejoined in the same positions, but with Luhr now in car 23 and Dumbreck in car 22. This time it was the Aston Martin of Darren Turner that was keeping Luhr honest. But again, as the race went on, the Nissan was able to pull away. Dumbreck's pace was also improving and, as he mounted a challenge to take fourth place, he noticed that something felt strange at the rear of his car.  At first he thought it might be scraps of rubber picked up from the track by the tyres. But then it became apparent that it was a possible suspension problem and, after nursing the car back to the pits, he retired with just three laps to go.  It was a bitter blow for the British pairing who had started the weekend so well, only to be struck with a continuation of the bad luck that has followed them around all season. However, it was all smiles in the pit garage next door as Luhr crossed the line to take the team's fifth race victory of the season and, in doing so, put him and Krumm at the top of the drivers' points table and JRM Racing second in the teams' standings with just three races to go - the next being at Ordos in China on 3rd & 4th September. Championship race results (pdf) <http://www.rpmpromotions.com/jrmotorsport/pdf/GT1ChampionshipRaceResultList.pdf Team Quotes Michael Krumm (Car 23) "It was a perfect result for us this weekend. Having a great car and a great pit stop in race one enabled us to take a win and therefore get pole position in the race two. I had a good start in the Championship Race and, although I came under some pressure, I was able to pull out a bigger and bigger gap. Again, the team did a good job in the pits. Then Lucas had an excellent second stint, which allowed us to take our fourth race victory of the season and regain the lead in the Drivers' Championship. Just fantastic!" Lucas Luhr (Car 23) "For us this has been a great weekend. I am really happy with the way everything has gone and a big thanks must go to the team. They have given us the tools to win races and that is exactly what we have done. Once the tyre pressures came up to the right point in the Championship Race I was able to maintain the advantage and it was a case of making sure I looked after the tyres until the finish. Everything has gone perfectly and it's been a fantastic weekend for us, the team and for Nissan." Richard Westbrook (car 22) "We just can't seem to get out of this rut of bad luck that we're in at the moment. The weekend started well and there's no doubt we have the pace, but our pole position for the Qualifying Race seems like a distant memory now. We did all we could and in both races and had a podium finish in sight, only for it to be snatched away in the closing stages. We win as a team and we lose as a team, but the bad luck just doesn't seem fair - especially with such a great bunch of guys behind us.  Peter Dumbreck (Car 22) "The pace of our car was very good this weekend and we've had some great racing, but it's just devastating for all our team when you don't get the results you deserve. After improving things with the tyres for the Championship Race, we were able to push harder and I felt confident that I could have got into third place before the finish. So you can imagine the frustration when I felt something happen to the rear suspension and our bad luck struck again." Nigel Stepney (Team Manager and Chief Engineer) "Car 23 had a perfect weekend and its testimony to the whole team that we were able to win both races. On the other hand, after getting pole position for the first race, it was disappointing that car 22 had more bad luck. After analysing why this car had a higher tyre degradation towards the end of race one, I was pleased to see that things were much better for the race two and it is frustrating that what looks to be such a small problem meant it didn't finish." James Rumsey (Team Principal) "Michael, Lucas and the team did a great job with car 23. Two wins in one weekend is a fantastic result. I'm just gutted for Peter and Richard. The outcome of this weekend means that we go to the next race in China leading the Drivers' Championship and second in the Teams', although if the bad luck hadn't struck car 22 we would be leading both points tables and that would have been great, especially with just three races left to go."
