Ellinas & King on Form at WTTC International

Atech Reid GP driver Tio Ellinas has qualified on pole position for the first race at round 5 of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup at Oschersleben, Germany. As the support category to the World Touring Car Championship, the Cypriot posted a time of 1.26.198 to put a gap of 0.087 tenths between himself and Belgian driver Stoffell Vandoorne.

Team mate Oscar King will start off row 5 in race one. Improving his pace by over a second in the second qualifying session of the day King secured a supurb 6th position on the grid and will start on row three for race two, with Ellinas right ahead of him on the second row in 4th.

The impressive 20 car grid for the NEC Formula Renault championship means that both Atech Reid GP drivers will be under lots of pressure from behind, but both are confident about racing tomorrow.

“I am really looking forward to the racing tomorrow.” Oscar stated. “It is fantastic to have so may cars on the grid and I am sure the racing will be interesting because of it. I have been improving on track every time I go out and I am looking to go forward in the racing tomorrow.”

Tio added “The team decided that it would be a good idea to enter the round so after the long break in the Formula Renault 2.0 UK calendar we will be on top form.” Tio stated. “It is my first time at the circuit and I am happy with the results. I will have to hold my own in race one but in the second race it will be good to make my way forward from gird 4.”

Team Principals Anthony Reid and David Hayle are positive about the results for both drivers with Anthony Reid stating that it was the right decision to send Tio and Oscar to the international round.

“Some other UK teams have had the same idea as us to send their drivers overseas after the long break.” Anthony stated. “For us it was the right decision with so much at stake in terms of the championship with Tio. The long break may see some mixed results next weekend at Snetterton, but we have made sure that our drivers will be on the pace and on form.”
